Help with donation wording

Help with donation wording

I am printing up my own scrolls for my donation favors and something just doesn't sound right. I am making the donation b/c my father has Diabetes. Thank God he is still with me but that part of the wording sounds funny. Any suggestions. Thanks!!!!!!!

To Our Family and Friends

With much thought and consideration,
we have chosen a special way
to say “Thank You” for sharing
our wedding day with us.

In lieu of a traditional wedding favor,
we have made a donation in your honor
to the American Diabetes Association,
to help fight this disease and one day find a cure.

We feel the finest gift is one which helps
others, like the bride’s father,
live longer and healthier lives.

We truly appreciate your being
part of our special day.

Re: Help with donation wording

We are doing the same thing only I had them printed on a bookmark that will be at everyone's place setting. We worded it as follows:

In loving memory of the groom's father, the late XXXXXX, a donation has been made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of favors.

That was lovely. Fortunately my father is still with us so I cannot use 'late' as part of the wording.

IMO, I would leave everything the way it is except take out the last paragraph about it being for people like your father, if you think it sounds funny.

That's the thing. I want it to honor my father so i want to include him somewhere in the wording

I think it sounds great. My only suggestion would be to take out the words 'like the brides father'. This way it won't chance your dad feeling uncomfortable (I don't know if that is a correct statement or not, since I don't know your dad) and it would also allow the guests to think of that special person they might know. You did a great job on the wording, it is very sincere.

Karen, I am considering doing this as well for the American Heart Association(my dad passed several years ago) and was wondering how you did this on the bookmarks? I think its a great idea but not really sure about making them myslef or what kind of design I'd put on it...do you have any pictures?

He won't be uncomfortable. he thinks the donation is a great idea. I am doing this for and because of him but the wording seems odd. Anyone else?

karina
I would just personalize it a little by adding your fathers first name......
it sounds great but where you say
like the brides father

say help people like, X, the brides father
I dont know his name but you know what I mean....

for e.g. lol, can you tell I have been typping my notes again,w/examples lol

say........ to help people, such as Frank, the brides father
and such sounds better than LIKE
b/c you dont want to sound like a valley girl I liked the wording though, it is very touching!!!

When you make the donation to the nonprofit, make sure that you tell them that it is in honor of your dad and the money was in lew of favors at your wedding. They usually will send something to your dad letting him know of the honor (I work for a nonprofit in fundraising).

I think that your wording is beautiful and touching. What if you word the last 2 paragraphs:

We feel the finest gift is one which helps
others live longer and healthier lives. This gift is given in special recognition of (Dads Name), the brides father, who shares in our joy today.

We truly appreciate your being
part of our special day.

I am in advertising, so I cannot resist adding my 2 cents into 'copy'

Jenny G-

I had the bookmarks printed up through the same book I ordered my invitations from - Birchcraft. It is a plain white bookmark with a tassel and just our monogram at the top followed by the wording.
