Hi ladies...... I did not have an engagement party so I could not answer this question. A friend of mine just got engaged and want's to have an engagement party. A co-worker said that the engagement party and the rehersal dinner is the responsibility of the grooms family. I knew the rehersal was.....but the engagement??? Just never heard this before.

Re: Help with engagement party
There really is no definite for this. I think that most etiquette says that the brides family pays, but nowadays, the couple themselves may be throwing it. We had ours at FH's parents house because they have a beautiful yard, but my parents hosted and paid for the party. Although, his parents did pitch in a bit. If you go on theknot.com I believe there are quite a few articles on this under the etiquette section.

Re: Help with engagement party
etiquette dictates that the bride's parents throw the engagement party. in fact, when i looked at invitations, most of them said Mr. & Mrs. ____ cordially invite you to celebrate their daughter...
we did it ourselves w/ some help from FMIL.

Re: Help with engagement party
my mom threw my engagement party. Don't know if there are 'set rules'.
I have heard that the groom's parents pay for the rehearsal dinner, though.

Re: Help with engagement party
traditionally the brides parents are supposed to pay for the e-party but i dont feel that the who-pays-for-what etiquette really applies anymore
