help with fh....

The last few days have been very hard on him. we had to take down a few of the walls because of the past owners of the house leaving open wires...
christmas his cousin pasesd away suddenly, and I have just never seen him like this...

Anyone have any idea of something nice I could do, that may just remind him that life deosnt always stink? I'm very worried, and my short temper from my own drama hasn't helped much...

Our first Christmas in our apartment we bought this letters to Santa container and both wrote letters and sealed them in there until next year and then we read what each other wrote. It was so cute and it really made us anticipate the next year's Christmas.

sorry you are going through this. .

I might just try to do lots of stupid little things. . . like leave little post it s with nice messages in hidden places, wrap up little things like his favorite: candy, beer, socks. ..and let him keep finding them. . the fact that they are all kind of silly little things makes it nicer as opposed to a big sorry you're feeling crappy gift. ..

Maybe you could have a date night once per week and alternate each week between something he wants to do and something you want to do. It would create some diversity, give each of you a chance to try something the other one wants to do and create a diversion to the stress. Plus, it would give you new & fun things to discuss other than your issues. You can even try low budget things, like take a day and look at design show rooms to get ideas for the house, or go to museums and exhibits to get design inspirations; try a new restaurant you'd like to try; stay overnight at a B&B somewhere that's about a 2-3 hour car ride away that way it's not too far to do overnight; go on hikes or camping. Even if it's not your thing, the change of pace may do you both a world of good! HTH!!

You guys are doing so much work on your apartment... is it mess inside or can you sneak there before him one night and surprise him.. maybe light candles and have a picnic on the floor and just talk. Make his favorite meal or dessert... maybe even surprise him with a little present?

I always surprise FH with his favorite food when hes down. The fastest way to my FH's heart is through his tummy

This is a great idea. Or take him to a comedy show or a nice dinner someplace. That could cheer him up. What about going into the city and seeing the tree and skating? Or maybe a ride through Central Park???

Yeah, hes legally converted his parents house to a two family so it took alot of work. He also did alot of things that he shouldnt have but whatever. He copied rooms from this cottage/loghouse magazine he gets and so its just been rough with work and everything else...

The floor is filled with crap...major... tools, grout, paint cans, levels, boxed furniture we havnt put together etc... and the bed came last weekend so thats taking up quite alot of space...

Im still stunned... Im not sure what to do.... we'll see

When my FH lost his job, I surprised him with a day of fun. I just thought about a bunch of things that always make him happy, and we went out and did them.

Just think of some of his favorite things to do and just surpise him one day and do a few of them together. The whole day we didnt talk about work, wedding, or money and it was great just to be together without anyone else around.

It was the year before we got engaged so I asked for patience since I really wanted to be engaged by Christmas but I didnt want to bother him more than I already did and he asked for financial stability so he could buy the ring and pay for the wedding - we got both! I cried my eyes out when I read his letter!

Re: help with fh....

just give him some space. my fh wants that more than anything when he is upset or cranky. be there for him if he needs you and in verbal ways such as bring him his favorite drink. stock his favs in the fridge. make his fav meal. put the tv on his fav channel when he comes in. and just kinda stay out of the way. kiss him tell him you love him. and let him be. it always seems to work with my fh. after a bit he will open up to me.
