Help with in-laws *** long***

Re: Help with in-laws *** long***

Take it from someone who has seen FH being treated like garbage from his sisters - there is nothing you can do.

it is not your place. I know you love him and want to defend him, but it is not your place.

You can only talk to him, tell him you love him, and try to make him see that this is not the way a family should be. but don't hold out much hope that things will change. This is how he grew up, this is all he knows.

But, before you get married you need to tell him that you object to his paying for his sister's rent. tell him after you get married, the money if for you and him to make a life together, not for his sister's rent.

because I can see this turning into a big argument between you two. And you need to stand together because I know the way his family treats him does hurt, but he is so used to it.

You seem to be in the EXACT same situation as me. FMIL is a witch...anyway, I just ingore it...its not worth the stress or time. When we see her, I am always polite...there have been times where I've gotten nasty but I want to keep the peace. So we have distanced ourselves from her and I think that's teh best thing for you to do as well. Good luck!

It seems like there are a bunch of us in the same situation...FH gets treated like trash and like a tenant in his own home... I said something to his mother and her interferring in our lives and even though we appreciate it, she needs to back off...BIG MISTAKE...Shawn is catching so much flack for it, its not even funny.

I know its hard to bite your tongue but you have to, for FH's sake...Just keep as much of a distance from her as you can and from that side of the family. Just try to keep the peace long enough, then once you two are married and out on your own you can cut ties with them as best you can...
(usually what i do at his family gatherings is drink...seriously, im not kidding at all...i have two glases of wine [enough to relax] and then i just sit there sipping at a 3rd glass while they go and cackle and complain about everything and each other...)

have you tried to sit down with him & his mom to discuss this??? i know it may be up front but if you are having these problems before marriage it will only continue. i know from experience that many people think marriage & then kids will fix things but it wont.

u have FM

FMIL just facebook friended me..... IS SHE SERIOUS?!!?!

RUN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!!! If you read what I am going going through with FSIL, this is something you do not want.

Seriously, you do not want this person knowing everything about you, your friends, etc. Talk with FH and see if he is OK with you not accepting her request. Tell her you only use it for people from work, or school.

I think Gabby's advice is great! I totally understand how you feel and from personal experience...nothing you say or do changes the fact that he will not turn his back on his family. It's just going to make you crazy. Again, I understand it's not easy to keep quiet. I have my own issues trying to do so. But if all else fails...drink wine :)

I agree with Gab, you shouldn't say anything because all will do is cause tension between him and you. He needs to realize this on his own and hopefully one day he will and you will be there to pick him up when he falls. Just be there for him and support him all the way through...
