Help with my dog, long.

Help with my dog, long.

I have a 10-11 month old female Shepard/akita mix. Dh rescued her when she was 8-12 weeks old NYACC was going to put her down. She was abandoned in a crack house with no food and water for weeks. We had her in training for about 4 months, then dh & the dog moved in since we were getting married. i don't think the dog is adapting. She is very spiteful. I have to crate her or she will go all over the floors, (we already had to re-do the kitchen tiles) If I leave her for 5 min and turn my back she'll go on the floor. She jumps she bites, digs, everything she shouldn't be doing she does. Even with correction she'll do it. DH & I spoke about giving her up but i don't think we could actually do it. Is there some kind of boot camp for dogs? Is it too late for her? Sorry this is so long. I don't know what to do.

Has she been seen by a vet? I always ask this because some behaviors are signs of sickness, ie. kidney infections, etc.
Before giving her up, be sure she has an absolute clean bill of health.
I'll ask my husband who are the best trainers for aggressive dogs.

I doubt that we'll actually get rid of her, she is a sweet dog. I will bring her to the vet. If you could provide me with the names of some trainers I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

PLEASE don't give up on her . It is not too late. I would try training again. You should also get How to Raise a Puppy by the Monks of New Skete. I am reading it now and it is EXTREMELY helpful as to why dogs do the things they do...it sounds like the reason she is behaving that way is because she was 'damaged' psychologically as a puppy in her critical stage of learning. But it's not too late, she may just need some extra help. The Monks also have another book called How To Be Your Dog's Best Friend. I got my book on Amazon for about $11.

This makes me so sad

Re: Help with my dog, long.

Hi Jen,

Thanks for the information. I doubt we will give her up. It would be too painful. I would never do anything to hurt her or bring her somewhere she will be put down. I did buy the book good dog, bad dog. It just doesn't seem to be helping. I'm just afraid that it's too late. If you know of any trainers for agressive dogs I would really appreciate it.
Thanks for your advice. I will look into the books.
