I need to know of good restaurants in the city. I booked a hotel for my mom and sister for the weekend and I wanted to get them a gift certificate to a nice dinner..
The hotel is the belvedere on 319W 48th street...any ideas? They arent really into fancy stuff so I was thinking something different, nice atmosphere, good food, etc..
Please let me know as soon as possible..going into the city later to get it! Thanks!

Rothmans Steakhouse or Carmines in Time Square.

Since you know them better than we do... try doing some searches through DigitalCity.com and Citysearch.com. They have ratings of restaurants, and you can search by cuisine and location.
I tend to eat more 'adventurous' food, so I'm not sure if I could recommend something. Good luck!! I'm sure they'll have a great time!

I second carmine's. I also like John's Pizzeria, just a few doors down from Carmines.

There is also Virgil's - a bbq restaurant in that area. I don't remember the exact location though.

Last year at this time we tried to get into carmine's but they had been booked since Oct. John's is very open spaced. The price is great as well as the food.

Carmine's is great but it's packed this time of yr- I was just there recently and it was a 2 hour wait w/o reservations...I think they only make reservations for large parties since it is family style. Another good one is on 46th b/w 8th and 9th : its called Becco - it is Italian. (Lydia Bastinich owns it- she has a show on channel 13)

I would get a gift certificate to B R Guests restaurants... They are always good- Blue fin and Ruby Foo's are in that area and are pretty good.
Carmines and Tony's are great however I wouldn't make reservations until 8:00 well after the pre- theater crowd because it gets really crowded and I feeled rushed for dinner.
There is a nice french restaurant my husband took me to for my birthday this year it is called PIGALLE..
good luck there are plenty to choose from...

I like to go to Victors Cafe (it's Cuban and DELICIOUS) and it's in the area! In the 40's between 7th & 8th I believe....

These are 2 of my favorite restaurants!! But both get really PACKED... definitely not a place to go if you dont like eating someplace crowded. Candela is worse, depending on how many people you have in your party. But that personally doesnt bother me if the food is worth it (which it is at these places!) Blue Water Grill is also owned by BR Guest. Yummy yummy!!!
