HELP WITH PACKING WEDDING DRESS

I'm leaving this weekend and I'm starting to panic about packing my wedding dress and wedding items (veil, underskirt, jacket etc).

I know that I MUST take it on board with me because I cannot risk it getting lost if it were in my luggage. So.... how am i suppose to pack this stuff? My mom suggested space bags, but I'm very worried that it will ruin my dress by flattening it too much?? Is that even possible? I'm just very worried and not sure what to do.

Anyone out there traveling with your wedding dress? What did you guys do? Thanks so much in advance for all of your help.

I rolled mine loosely and put it in one of those carry on suitcases. I was worried it would get flatted or ruined, but I had it pressed when I got to LI and everything was fine....(until i wore it out in the rain....but.....) I didn't want to risk the garment bag because I didn't want it out of my sight. They make you put it at the front of the plan IF they let you take it on. I was NOT going to check that puppy.
