Help with selling stuff on e-bay

When you register to sell something on e-bay do you have to give them both your credit card number and your checking account number? I don't understand why you would need to give your checking account number.

no you don't...if you want to be verified or something like that you have to give them a checking account...I didn't though

How do you register to be a seller without giving them your checking acct info? It won't let you continue with the registration without this info. This was just for the regular seller sign up, not the verisign one. I wanted to sign up to sell but this is stopping me.

Sounds to me like a very good security measure -- it would be relatively easy to use someone else's credit card number, but to have a matching stolen checking account is much less likely.

You may as well put in your checking account...number. It is just a security measure on Ebays part...especially since there is so much Credit card scams going on.

When I registered to sell I had to put in my credit card and my bank account because I didnt have a stationary email account. I signed up with my hotmail account and Ebay needed proof of who I was.

I wouldnt worry about it too much. I have been selling on ebay for almost a year now, and I have 122 positive feedback. I also buy alot of stuff on ebay and I have never had a problem.

If you are going to sell items....Make sure you do not take personal checks from people. I usually just take money orders and Paypal.

Paypal is almost like an online savings account. Its a money transfering website. I have an account with them, and I am also verified. That means that I can take credit cards. Paypal takes out a small amount out of each money that is deposited into my account. It is very minimal. I also have a Paypal debit card. I can transfer money straight into my bank account using their transfer program, I can take money from the ATM machine using the debit card with a small fee from paypal, and I can also use the paypal card to purchase items.

I hope this helps you.

You can also get free boxes from USPS, if you decide to use them for your shipping needs. This is for priority boxes only. Instead of buying them from the post office, you can get them for free from USPS

I too have been selling stuff on Ebay as I try to organize our house and get rid of some of the stuff I had left over from the wedding. Plus, I've lost weight and have to get rid of a bunch of last winter's clothes.

I gave them that info and didn't have a problem. It's just a security measure.
