I need to call the church and make an appoittment for the wedding. This is my FH church. I have never been their before. What do I say when I call, and what should I say when I am their. I need other peoples experiences.

Re: Help with the church!!!
I say make FH call!
But if you are going to call then I would very honetly tell them that you are planning your wedding and they your FH and his family are parishioners and it would mean a lot to the both of you to be married in that church - then let them take it from there...
You may need to have a priest in mind that you want to perform the ceremony. If they tell you that you need to speak to the priest first then get his number and ask them for the best way to contact him - in person or by phone...and when.

Re: Help with the church!!!
Your FH should really contact him since it is his church. Me and my Fiance are not members of the church we are getting married at we choose the church because it is so beatiful and also very close to the reception hall.
So Ijust contacted the Pastor directly and said I am interested in getting married at your church and just see where it goes from there. Usually they will ask if you are members of the church and then they will want to meet with you.
But good Luck I hope everything works out.

Re: Help with the church!!!
Another problem is my FH and his family have not gone to this church since there pastor retired(2 years). Though both sons were baptized, had there communion and confirmations their. The church is Lutheran and I am Catholic. I really want to get married in a church, but I'm afraid they will not let us since we have don't attend the church. I wouldn't even know what pastor to ask for.

I would call as soon as possible. If you want to call, be honest....tell them that it's your FH's church and you'd like to be married and what do you need to do. You'll probably need the baptism certificates for the both of you.
I would NOT tell them you have a date already because they frown upon that! Ask them what dates they have available. They like you to choose the date for the church before the hall. Then go from there. They will probably give you some dates then once you pick one they usually have you meet with the priest or deacon that will perform the ceremony.
Good Luck

Get ready to start going to church! FH and I wanted very much to get married at the church near us so we went to the rectory and filled out all the paperwork to become parishioners - we have been going every Sunday since October 2003 (we miss a few here and there) and we make sure our envelope is in the basket.
My FH's cousin wanted to have a mass at her wedding. The priest told her that he would not perform it unless she made a sincere effort to attend masses more often. So she went as much as she could before the wedding and it was no problem.

Re: Help with the church!!!
Definitely get the church first. They are very bad with calling people back, so be prepared for that. I literally left my priest 10 messages and then I finally just went down there. But all you have to do is introduce yourself and the priest will set up a meeting with you and FH to go over things and will briefly talk about precana and that stuff. I just had the one meeting so far and I think we are doing precana in september. Good luck!

Re: Help with the church!!!
We're getting married at my church, however I haven't gone to mass in quite some time. We contacted the priest before we started to plan anything to make sure the dates we were looking at were available. Then we went back to get info on pre-cana, etc. Since I was baptised there I didn't need to do much. We got a copy of FH's baptismal certificate from his church and gave it to the priest. My church didn't offer pre-cana so we went to a one day thing and we just met the priest again this weekend to take the FOCUS test (a quick survey to see if you are compatible, make sure you have no previous marriages, drug problems. etc.) and schedule our reahersal dinner.
I wouldn't be worried about calling, just ask to speak to the person in charge of sceduling the weddings - they'll ask all the necessary questions. People get married all the time so I'm sure they have received plenty of calls before.
About the church thing - that can vary from parish to parish. Our priest recommended that we make an effort to include Christ in our life by attending mass etc. but it is not a requirement.
