Help with venue

Hi everyone -
I was wondering if I might get some advice from you all. My DH's sister is turning 30 in August and my brother-in-law is looking to throw her a big party. We are looking for someplace to have it. We are expecting over 100 people so it is going to almost like a mini-wedding. So far, some places we are considering are . . .
Old Field Club
Three Village Inn
Danfords
Harbor Club
Coindre Hall
Thatched Cottage (if they ever call me back!)
Vanderbilt Mansion (Lovin Oven caterers)
Does anyone have any feedback on any of these places? If anyone has any other suggestions, they'd be much appreciated. We are looking to stay under $120 a plate and would prefer a Sat. night. We would also like to stay in Suffolk county but not too far east (i.e. Eastwind Caterers would be a bit too far).
Thanks!

Old Field Club
fm Teri on this one

Thatched Cottage

I was interested b/c I grew up 1 mile a way...when I went there...the valet was in a dirty Tshirt and smoking a cigarette...her smoked it in my car...and thought that if he opened the window it wouldn't matter...YUCK...I mentioned this to the manager and she said there were only 2 valet companies in LI and they had no choice!!!

there was a wedding in progress and I bumped into the bride...I felt so bad...and I wouldn't want people bashing my wedding

Vanderbilt Mansion (Lovin Oven caterers)

we went to a wedding here last year and it was so beautiful...but for a SMALL wedding...I would say under 130...the food is fabulous...(I used lovin oven as well), but I felt the c ocktail hour food was sparce

what about John Anthony's??

I looked at Danfords for my wedding, but it was a bit too small (I would stay under 125 there)
The set up looked VERY condusive to a great party though, and I loved the atmosphere.

Old Field Club is just gorgeous! It was a bit above our price range though, so we didn't go there, but my mom's band HIGHLY recomends them! (mom is a musician)

Three Village Inn is very quaint, nice atmosphere also, but kinda wierd cause you often need to go through the restaurant to get to your catered room...

Good luck!

Re: Help with venue

Thanks for the info guys! Really helpful . . .
Yabbobay, as for John Anthony's, my husbands best friend got married there and is now going through a divorce so I thought having the event there might not be too pleasant for him. I would've definitely considered it if the circumstances were different. Also, that stuff about the Thatched Cottage does not sound so good. Smoking in your car??!! Yuck.
As for Danfords, does anyone know how the food is? I live down the block and have never eaten there! My only concern about Danfords is that I heard the room set-up is weird (dancefloor in another room or something).
The Old Field Club seems great but they do not have any 7/03 Sat. availability so that's a disadvantage.
Thanks again for your all your help!!

I'm getting married at the Three Village Inn and it's perfect for the size and amount of money you want to spend. We loved it because it has a different feel than other catering halls and the food is delicious. Very quaint.

Yes you might have to walk through the restaurant to get to the catering room but in the summer and spring months there is an enterance on the side of the building just for that room. Thats the one we are using.

Good luck!!!

Re: Help with venue

Thanks Karen - I have an appointment at the Three Village Inn on Tuesday. They didn't quote prices over the phone but they seemed like they really wanted to work with me. Since the party will be in the summer, they told me we would be able to use the same entrace to the room as you (through the patio I think?). Thanks again!

Re: Help with venue

I have to say, i love the Vanderbilt Mansion (that is where we are getting married) so i am biased. I think it will depend on when you are having it, but you may run above your $$ when you factor in tax/tip etc.

Three Village inn is nice, but I am not sure how many people it fits comfortably (i grew up in Stony Brook so I recognize all of the places that you mentioned)
i have never eaten at Danfords but i have heard it is pretty good food and their prices are good. Not too happy with the room set ups though. They almost put us in the 'cottage' for a RD, which looked out over the parking lot!

If you would like something a little more casual, but with a nice deck and good view, pop over to the Stony Brook Yacht Club while you are at Three Village inn. It literally is across the street. Doesn't look like much from the outside but like i said, it has a nice deck and good view of the water (floor to ceiling glass looking out over the water. this is probably too casual for you, but since you will be there, it might be worth popping in. (you don't need an appointment, just walk in and say you are checking it out for a party and they will give you the menu options). Good luck!
