I have an engagement party both families are Indian so i was reading up on it and wearing black is not a good thing...showing shoulders, chest and too much legs not a good thing too. Its not the wedding so i dont want to look too dressy.what should i wear and where can i go and buy a dress?

My FH is Bengali...similar cultures. Cleavage is a no-no, as is showing the knees.
Have you thought about dress slacks and a nice, modest top?

yeah only online... could you overnight it? or 2 day air? also check out bebe, bcbg, and INC, im sure youll find really cute sweater dresses there, oooo!! and express.... theyre not too hard to find
