HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

OK, this is my problem: I have posted before that I have been umemployed since this summer when I graduated and am applying to Law School for the fall. Well, I finally got a call back from an immigration attorney (which is what I want to be) for a receptionist position. He would pay me good, full-time, paid medical benefits, sick/personal days, and one week paid vacation. Now, I live in Freeport and don't have a car right now and this job is in BOHEMIA!!! (a good 40 min drive)
My FI has agreed to drive me every morning and pick me up mon-thurs and my dad would probably pick me up on fridays (this is until I get a car) I just don't know if I should take this job because of the inconvenience that it is so far away. I don't want to bother FI and my dad picking me up and dropping me off everyday. My dad works in Melville and FI works in Plainview. What should I do? I have to get back to him tommorrow.

Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

OH Yes!!!!!!!!! I really do want this opportunity
and honestly, alot of jobs have turned me down because they felt I was over-qualified
(whatever that meant!) They told me they did not want to waste time training me and then I would leave because I have a degree and probably would want to pursue other things.
( I never told any of them I was applying to law school) I feel that this guy is really the only one who is willing to give me this opportunity, I guess not having a car is really bothering me right now why did it have to be so far away? AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Just remember nothing is forever this no car thing is temporary so do not make a life altering decision on a temporary situation !

Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Take it! I mean, I'm assuming you applied for it knowing how far away it is, and that deep down you really want it. What's the worst that happens? You quit after a while? I think it's a great opportunity to learn a lot about the field that you're interested in, and to network with other immigration attorneys. Besides, the job market sucks right now. You might as well take a job that you're interested in, even if the commute is a hike.

If you really want it, then of course take it, BUT -

You could probably find a higher paying same type job in the city.

Don't count on it. There's a lot more competition in the city for people who already have experience as a law firm receptionist and many more law students looking to get their foot in the door somewhere.

Any chance you'll be able to get your own car sometime soon with the salary you'll be bringing in?

well, actually my dad has already given me $1000 to start saving and now he said that he would help me out with the rest. I am not looking for anything expensive and honestly, I don't want to be making car payments because I really don't need another bill for this coming year. I can probably have a car within the next month or so.

Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

do it!!!!!! this is a foot in the door and you are getting medical!!! and you don't need a prime car, right, just something to get you from point a to point b, right? then do it, buy a cheapo car and save for the wedding. you'll be great!

Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

you can probably lease a car for pretty inexpensively. A civix, or corrolla or something like that. I would take the job and work on getting an inexpensive, reliable car asap.

I know that it will be hard with the commute - but if you need to work then I would consider it. I did notice that it was a full time job - do you intend to keep working there if you get into law school - if so - you should keep in mind that as a full time law student you have to sign something agree to work less than 20 hours a week for the first year - it is an ABA requirement

Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

well, I would work full-time for now and just ask for part-time hours next year if I get accepted into school. There is another job actually, I just got a letter from Civil Service for a job at the social service office in Mineola that I had gone on an interview for back in January. It is for a part-time job as a Bilingual Clerk and it doesn't pay bad but it is only for 3 days a week. I have to take an oral and written test in Spanish (which is not a big deal and I have an appt March 1st) but they would pay me about 300 EVERY TWO WEEKS!!!! BUT I was also thinking about maybe taking a night job like at the library or something like that, I just want to work as much as I can before I start school so that we can save some money.
