Help..anyone doing a joint invitation??? Kinda long

FH and I are trying to convince his parents to agree to a joint invitation for our wedding. I don't care if they want to put their names first on the invite...I just want it to be one invitation that we can send to all our guests (we have some common guests) and have the RSVP's come to my house. I've already told FH that its a good idea to save both money and aggrevation and FH agrees with me but FH's dad wants a separate invitation for the sake of 'individuality'. I don't think that individuality is worth me pulling my hair out over lost RSVP's, phone calls to those that didn't respond, and seating chart nightmares in the future. Do you agree?

Can you come up with any other good reasons for joint invites?

I could use a hug right about now.

I've never heard of using two different invites? WHy not just put both names on one? or use 'Together with their parents..'

Is this a cultural thing to use two different invites?

It is not cultural to use 2 different invites but FH's parents want their own. FH and I only want one invitation for both families. I think it would save a lot of hassle. RSVP's were a nightmare when my brother got married 4 years ago so I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible.

I have never heard of this either. Who is paying for them? I would think it would be expensive and a HUGE headache to do 2...our invitations were the most stressful part of planning

I've never heard of this either and I work with invitations. You and your FH should choose 1 invitation that you both like and that should be it. Your Future In Laws should probably have a say on if you include their names or not but not on which invite you choose. And they definitely shouldn't get their own. That's nuts.

I have never heard of anyone doing this. You say FH's dad wants separate invites for sake if individuality, but isnt a wedding about unity and joining of your two families? JMHO

I hope you didn't think they wanted their very own invitations. No, no. They wanted to order their own invites for their side of the family separate from what my family is sending.

Its fairly common in our community but FH and I just want one set of invites that will probably say 'Mr. and Mrs. So and So and Mr. and Mrs. So and So request the honor of your presence
at the marriage of their children Reno & Sheethal....'

Anyway, I think they're coming around now. FH talked to them today.

So they wanted the same invites as your parents, but wanted their name on theirs and your parents name on yours? I'm confused. I think you should just have both sets of parent names on the same invitation. Much easier and it shows the coming together of the two families.

I'm reading the heading on your post, and I think you will find every single bride on this website is doing ONE invite, that reads one of the following ways:

(1) Together with their parents, Bride & groom invite you blah, blah

(2) Mr. & Mrs Parents of the Bride invite you to the marriage of their daughter BRIDE, to GROOM, son of Mr. & Mrs. Parents of the Groom blah blah

(3) Mr. & Mrs. Parents of the Bride, and Mr. & Mrs. Parents of the Groom invite you to the marriage of their children, Bride & Groom blah blah

I've never heard of sending two invites with different hosts on each invite.

In terms of good reason for 'joint invite' as you put it, how about simply 'that is the way it is done'!!!!
