Help....baby's on the way(to the party)

Ok...the wording of my invites(not out yet) strongly suggest the reception is a very grown up party.
(back story...we eloped in April, this is a just a reception)
I just got a reply to my save the date that my hubby's business associate is bringing his new baby.
This is going to be an outdoor, nightime, party on the water. It's not going to be a comfortable venue with a baby.
How do I tactfully say this.

If you are 100% opposed to having the baby there, then just tell them! I'm sure they will understand.

This makes me so upset. What is it with people and going to events like these with kids! If you cant find a babysitter....stay home!!!!!
Is it just me?

you would think that people would ask before the assume - i would just tell them it is an adult only reception

Really explain to them the environment--late, dark, loud, that would encourage me to keep a child at home.

I completly agree. I have a 9yr old and would NEVER assume she was invited somewhere, unless the invitation was addressed to her.

It's so sad how people assume things before they receive the invite. Ours is a kid friendly wedding (FH has a 5 year old son) but even with him having a child I would hope that my guests didn't assume anything until they got the invite.

Thanks for all the advice.
If it were me, I would want the host to say something before I schlepped the baby all the way to the Hamptons, and had to bail.
I proof my invites on Thursday, should I add 'adults only' to the invite, or just say something on the wedding website?
DH says I will seem like a baby-hating meanie if I put 'adults only' on the invite. I have offered to my cousins to pay for a baby-sitter and they got the idea.
By the way, I am not a baby-hating meanie, but it's a boat dock at night, and not a good idea to have kids running( or crawling) around.

you could always put something on the website that if anyone needs help finding a babysitter for their kids you could refer them to (insert LIW bride teacher/babysitter who needs extra cash and is responsible) etc

u can just put 'adult reception to follow at (such & such time)'...it'll still get the point across without saying 'ADULTS ONLY.'

Re: Help....baby's on the way(to the party)

ps: is this going to be a brand new baby or a toddler??? if she's having the baby right before the wedding maybe this is why??? if it is the reason - u can talk to them & maybe say that if they can't find a sitter that they can bring him/her as a last resort?? even though it's still tacky to do, i dont think u would even know that the baby was there being that it's so young...

if the baby ISN'T brand new, then i'd definetly talk to them and tell them that you're sorry if there was some sort of misunderstanding but that it's an adult reception. I simply told people that 'I didn't even invite any children in the family and I didn't want to offend others but having other children there'. hope this all works out for u!

Re: Help....baby's on the way(to the party)

Sorry to confuse.....my problem was with a guest I have never met. It's a friend of the groom...and his baby. If it was a friend of mine or a relative of mine it would be ok, I could talk it out.
BTW
My cousin is having a baby a few weeks before, she is cool, I offered to get her a hotel room and a babysitter, but she is taking care of things herself.
