FI and I are moving on May 9th even though our lease ends on May 31st. I am mailing invites next week with a RSVP date of May 25th and our current address, which will be our old address. Once we move, I know that the RSVP's will be going to our old address, will they automatically be forwarded to our new address? I have a feeling this is going to be a big mess!

Re: Help...future mix up with address
Did you already do a forwarding order with the post office? I did mine in January for a March move, and it took almost 2 months for everything to really start getting forwarded. And stuff is still going to my old address.
Do you have a good relationship with your old landlord? Can you ask them to hold your mail for you should they get any?

I know that forwarding mail takes some time to actually start and eventually mail stops being forwarded after a while. I would speak with the post office to make sure...worse comes to worse you may just have to make some calls to see whose coming! Good luck!

Prior to your move, 2-3 weeks before, you may want to start a mail forwarding service. Go to the post office and fill out a mail forwarding form.
If you do it a lot prior to May 25th, you should be getting all your mail forwarded, and will receive it with a few days of delay.
You can also opt to have the post office 'hold' your mail for a certain period of time, this way you will receive it all once when you go and pick it up.
But I think since you're moving before RSVP date, it makes more sense to have the mail forwarded then held.

Wait - here's an idea....can't you 'stop' your mail at the post office and then they hold it for you? I know my mom does this when she goes on vacation for longer periods of time. Maybe you can 'stop' your mail beginning when you move out until the end of the month? That should give you enough time for all the RSVPs to come in and you'll have the rest of your mail in time to pay the bills etc!

Re: Help...future mix up with address
I moved in with FI in June and I am still getting some things that were sent to my old address forwarded to me.
I think it takes about 2 weeks to get it official with the post office. Regular mail will be forwarded up to 1 year to your new address and magazines I believe 6 months. (something you'll have to ask the post office)
But if you put in the change of address now, you should have no problems getting your RSVP's back

Why don't you try to make friends with whoever is moving in. I'm sure that they'd be nice enough to hold them for you!

either get the forwarding done on your mail or have the post office hold it for you..

Honestly, you really might want the post office to just hold it for you. Some of my mail gets forwarded, but I'm still waiting for a lot of my mail and I moved 2 months ago! Good luck!
