Ok so my FH has a gigantic family, I really don't want to spend 2 hours taking pictures with everyone. Most important on my list of course are parents and grandparents so I will take formals with them. Do I NEED to take formals with every aunt and uncle...and how can I possibly fit them in if I do? Help! TIA

I don't think you need to. I don't plan to at least. I have a huge family as well... so in between the church and the reception I am going to take pics with the bridal party and parents.. and then I am going to meet the grandparents and my god parents at the RH 30 min early and take pics with them there...If I did every aunt and uncle I would be there for a few hours taking pics!

we have a big family and we did 2 huge group photos for my brothers wedding, one with my mom's side of the family (aunts, uncles, etc) and one with my dad's side of the family. The only ones who got solo shots were the grandparents.
ETA: I plan to do the same during cocktail hour

FH and I are seeing eachother before the ceremony and we are having our immediate families come to the RH about and hour or so before the ceremony so we can get the pictures done that way. I really don't want to miss my CH and I get really impatient w/ pictures. Once they are over I'll be good.

To be honest with you I think the most important pics are with your granparents and parents so if it would be a pain in the butt to round everyone up then don't worry about it, you can always stand by their tables and have someone snap a pic of them with you both, just to have a pic of them all....I honestly wouldn't go nuts over it.

I agree that you don't have to. Maybe his god parents if he has them. Otherwise just do one huge family photo and call it a day. You can always ask the photographer to take a picture of them without you and FH so they have a nice family photo and they can do that during the reception.

Re: Help...how are you handling family pics?
No you don't. Listen, my cousin got married and his wife didn't have a good time because my Aunt was a PITA and wanted formals of the whole family. Don't do it. Just have pics with the parents, in laws, siblings and whoever is in the bridal party. I am planning on doing that. I know my Mom won't be happy but I am firm on that decision.

Re: Help...how are you handling family pics?
We are probably going to have pics taken at the RH lobby...I have a very small family, and FH's is much larger, but the immediate is not too bad that it would take hours. If it starts getting crunched for time, I have no problem stepping in and cutting it off, whether all shots have been taken or not.

As far as me with family pics and knowing how everyone wants different kind of shots..... I am asking the main family to come alittle early before the ceremony to take pics.

Re: Help...how are you handling family pics?
I was at a wedding once and the DJ called 'members of the Brides family to the floor'. SNAP- photo.
'members of the Groom's family' SNAP- photo
Friends of the bride and groom- photo.
Took all of 10 mins and everyone was laughing and cracking jokes. They did it after the bouquet toss. They took photos with their parents/grandparents and other VIP's earlier in the evening.
Hope this helps!

Re: Help...how are you handling family pics?
There is NO way possible to do each aunt and uncle in mine and FHs family...so we don't want to insult anyone at the same time...soo...the only ones coming to take pictures are only the BP and parents...all our siblings are already in the BP lol... Then at the RH, I told my photographer that I want to make sure to have a decent pic of me and everyone..I made a huge list! But we're doing that with most of the guests anways... Like of them giving me the hug, and a pat on the back...not posed...ya know? lol

I have a huge family as well, and we've never done formal pics with aunts and uncles. I would ask your photog to go with you as you go to each table and take pics with family members there.
