I have a really nice wood table in my dining that we have only had for about a year...well the other day i ironed a pair of pants on it (over a towel) and i guess the steam went throug because now I have white marks all over the part of the table where i ironed. Is there anything I can do to fix this or did i totally destroy my table?

Sounds like you melted the polyurethane coating. The only way I can think of fixing that is having it repaired by someone who restores furniture: sands and reapplies the polyurethane coating.

I did something similar...I got nail polish remover on my wood table. We bought this stuff called furniture restore which is the same color as the table. Now...if FH would actually fix the table...I can tell you if it worked or not....

luvsun27...can you tell me where you got it from? Is it easy to use?
I would try Murphy's oil...in a color close to the table...
I don't think it would harm it any more...but I have been very successful with it and scratches and knicks...

Dani00518...got it from a hardware store. It looks really easy...just rub it on with some very fine steel wool...but FH hasn't acutally done it yet...he has promised me for a month now....

i did the same exact thing to a small swivel end-table. i never found anything that fixed it. sorry!

If nothing works, how about ironing thru a towel all over your table so you dont have any area that stands out? (not the idea solution but better than throwing out the table)

Is there any chance you have a warranty on the table??? When we purchased our dining room table, we bought some kind of protection thing .. I think it was called Guardsman .. where if the table is wrecked, it's replaced .. the salesman had given us examples like a party that destroys the table .. just wondering if maybe you had something like this for your table .. maybe it would qualify for replacement.
You may want to have a professional look at your table .. before you do anymore damage to it by trying to fix it.

The guy who came to our house was Louis .. the first time was to inspect the first delivery of the table and tell HK is really was messed up, so they would exchange it .. and finally he had to come back on the 5th delivery of the same table to repair scratches and chips.

My DH put a really hot cup of coffee on a table once and it left a big white spot on the table and I was agle to use wood polish - like Pledge or something - and it came off and everything was fine. Not sure if it will work - but worth the try...If not try the mfg - they may have some remedies....Good Luck!

Also- this is the perfect time to purchase table pads! I never have my dinning room table without them. They are worth the money to protect your table.
