HELP.....OUTER ENVELOPE ?

OK...so I got FH's work list from his secretary who did NOT indicate 'Esquire' on any of the names (come to think of it, on our invite it didn't say 'Esquire' either next to FH's name)....well, now he wants me to put it there....but they are already done......

I know this isn't 'correct' as the wives aren't lawyers also:

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, Esquire
because I checked a site with the info and it only mentions if they couple are both 'degreed' the same way.....

Drs. John and Jane Doe (doing from memory)

Based on that, they would have to read:
Mr. John Smith, Esquire and Mrs. John Smith, right??? You know, had he just gotten this info long ago when I asked for it, I wouldn't be trying to figure this out on my way to the post office!!

ETA-I have already filled out and stamped the envelopes and don't have enough left to do them again...we already had to wait a week for more envelopes.

I have alot of friends and relatives who are attorneys, and I have never seen them addresssed with Esquire. I doubt anyone would be offended and it is not worth your heartache!!

Re: HELP.....OUTER ENVELOPE ?

FH and I are both attorneys and a lot of our guests are attorneys. We did not put esquire on any of our invites, and I have never received any pesonal mail with Esquire behind my name. I only get that with my business mail.

I really would not worry about it.

However, if you happen to have any guests that are judges I would be 'Hon.' or 'Honorable' in front of the name.

ex: Mr. John Doe & Hon. Jane Doe
