She is not small (prob size 14 or so) -- but beautful and young looking--- she wants something special (of course) and tight (not traditional MOB dress with matching jacket). Everything has been too much material (like princess ball gown) or not her size to try on well enough (she is VERY visual and needs to see it on her).
PLEASE TELL ME WHERE YOUR MOM WAS SUCCESSFUL???

I went shopping with my Mom and Grandma and Queen of Hearts in Merrick, my Mom was too small for the samples they had but my Grandma bought there. The lady who owned the store was SO helpful and sweet! I kept saying I wish I needed an evening gown, they had such nices things. I beleive they start and size 14 and go up. I def reccomend going there.

I just re-read what your mom is looking for and you HAVE to check out TAHLULA! It is EXACTLY what you are looking for.....NOTHING bridal shop MOB-ish...
The dresses are GORGEOUS! The selection is VERY large and the woman and seamstresses are sooooooooo wonderful to work with!!!

My Daughter's Wedding II in Great Neck. They had tons of sizes and off the rack dresses too. My mom wears like a size 22-24 and wanted an adorned dress (no ruffles, just a little sparkle) with suit jacket and didn't want to spend too much. At first they told us we were nuts when we went in there and told them our budget, and about 30 seconds later we found the PERFECT dress for her on their off the rack section. They did the alterations there and she was extremely pleased.

My mom got her dress at Queen of Hearts...they start at a size 14 but they have a lot of dresses all different types!

I would definitely check out Lord and Taylor. I feel like they always have such beautiful, long length dresses and your mom could definitely find something that she likes there. And L&T is always offering discount coupons good for both regular and sale items.
