Here is my Interfaith program if anyone needs it!
WEDDING CEREMONY
The Chuppah
The Chuppah is the wedding canopy under which L___ and B____stand during their marriage ceremony. The Chuppah symbolizes the new home that they will create and share as husband and wife. It is traditionally open on all four sides so that their friends and family can partake in the ceremony and become part of their new life together.
The Ketubah
Prior to the ceremony, L___ and B____, along with their witnesses BE and DB, signed an interfaith Ketubah, a Jewish wedding contract. The Ketubah contains spiritual, not legal, promises that L___ and B____have made to one another.
Blessing Over the Wine
A blessing will be said over the wine and L___ and B____ will drink from the same cup to affirm their devotion to each other throughout their lives.
Unity Sand Ceremony
L___ and B____'s relationship is symbolized through the pouring of two individual containers of sand into a third one. It is the Catholic symbol of two people becoming one in marriage. This ceremony has been chosen by B____ and L______instead of the more traditional Unity Candle lighting because of the special meaning that the sand used in this ceremony has to them.
Exchanging of the Rings
The rings are simple and unadorned because a circle is continuous and symbolic of their undying love, devotion, and partnership. Lisa’s ring is placed on her right index finger because in Judaism the index finger is believed to be directly connected to the heart.
The Seven Blessings
These blessings are recited in Hebrew, then in English. The first six blessings praise God for creating the world, man and woman, children, peace and harmony, and the joys of marriage. The seventh, the blessing over the wine, symbolically sanctifies this day and this marriage.
Breaking of the Glass
The ceremony concludes with breaking a glass by stepping on it. Traditionally, this reminds us of the destruction of the Temple. The shattered glass also reminds us of how fragile life and love can be. Once the glass is broken, it is traditional for all guests to shout “Mazel Tov!”
The Yichud
Immediately following the ceremony, L___ and B____will retreat to a private room where they will share their first few moments together as husband and wife.
