Heres a question...

Im trying to figure something out. If someone is paying lets say $125 per plate with a 15% gratuity per person.. How much does that really equal per person? I am so bad in math, I couldn't even pass sequential 1 in High School.. I was in a class called 'polygons' Yeah.. math is just not my thing.

No Im not paying 125 a plate. I would rather not disclose the ACTUAL amount because of lurkers. No not you ladies..

$125 * 15% = 18.75

$125 = 18.75 = $143.75

$125 * 1.08375 (NYC sales tax) * 1.15 (gratuity) = $155.79 PP

Re: Heres a question...

The tax on LI is 8.75%...

Just punch in on the calculator 125x15%(gratuity)=___then add this number to 125. Then multiply this number x8.75% and add that number to the 125 + the gratuity #.

ETA: For example 125 x 15%=18.75; add 18.75 to 125 and you'll get 143.75. Now multiply 143.75x8.75% and you'll get 12.58. Now add 143.75+12.58=156.33...thats what you're actually paying pp...

125+18.75= $143.75
143.75*8.75%= 12.58
143.75+12.58 = $156.33

$156.33 w/grat & tax

Re: Heres a question...

The numbers are a bit confusing. One thing you need to remember is that gratuity is taxable.

Multiply your price per person times the gratuity. Then, multiply that number times the tax rate.

It looks like this:

(price pp x gratuity) x tax = total

$125 pp x 15% gratuity = $125 x 1.15 = $143.75

$143.75 pp x 8.75% tax = $143.75 x 1.0875 = $156.33

Does that make sense?

I didn't know the gratuity was taxable.
