I am trying not to think about it. We are flying at the end of the month. FH is getting freaked out.

I heard President Bush signed something requiring all people with SARS be quarrentined. IT's just like that movie OUTBREAK with Dustin Hoffman!!

My dad was in Singapore a few weeks ago on a business trip (for 7 days). He felt sick the entire first week he was back- flu symptoms. He went to the dr. that Sat. and was told he had severe bronchitis. He went home and immediately saw the news story on SARS. He saw his symptoms matched SARS and called the dr. back on Sunday. In the meantime my mom made him sleep in the basement. The doc did not even know about the story yet. He said to come in the next day. He could have died by then. It was a scary 2 days, but he was cleared on Mon. He slept away that entire wknd. and doesn't remember much. Since then he has had 3 followups to recheck his lungs. It took him a few weeks to rid off all the body aches, cough, and congestion. I could not see him until today since I was scared for my baby's immunity especially. I wanted him better for a full week. His company's building in Singapore has since closed and his boss is stuck in Singapore now. Even though he did not have SARS as far as the dr, can tell, he has to have a blood test for it when one becomes available. It he is now immune to it he may be studied to see why.

yea its freaky, but not scary enough for me to change my lifestyle. i fly all the time and that's not going to change. there hasn't been a single death in the US. media just creates mass hysteria. i'm not saying its not scary or that people haven't died .. but its not as huge right now as some people think.

17 suspected cases in all of new york .. and that's the second largest (30 in california).

I think the only thing I really worry about is FI is in terminal 1 of JFK which has the airlines that fly to Hong Kong, Japan, and Germany. That doctor who was the first case went through his terminal. Someone had to check this guy's bags. Thank goodness it wasnt FI.

My mom works in Terminal 4 in JFK which is strickly international (she works in the duty free shops) so she has to interact with people all day (taking money, looking at boarding passes, etc..)

So that is what really worries me having my mom and FI both working in international terminals and dealing with people all day.

But me I am not worried. We are hoping to go to FL in June and definatly not worried. I love to travel and nothing is ever going to stop me (well maybe funds, but thats about it)

I agree with sonia...this is complete media hype...

60 or so people have died worldwide...but did you know that 20,000 people die every year in the US from the regular flu???

Your FH should be cognizant of how he is feeling since he may come in contact with some germs...but the news also says that SARS can be treated very easily...

My FH travels to China/HK often and I nor he is worried about it.

By the way, Chippatrid, my FH usually departs/arrives at Terminal 7 when going to or coming home from Asia.

Since I live out of town this year either my fiance or I fly every weekend. I have been freaking out about this for weeks now. My fiance thinks im crazy.
I check www.who.org everyday and as of yesterday there are 115 cases in the united states...that number has DOUBLED in the past week!

I dont think its SARS that scare me its what people pack in there suitcases.

there was the shot gun incident (some one packed a shot gun in their suitcase. He caught it when working in the back room), 2 men traveling domestically had a carry on bag of stricktly bra's and thongs, another person yelled at him because there is a sign that says if your bag is locked they will pop it open and the passanger yelled at him for doing his job, and my favorite one person gave him grief because she continued to beep and told FI it was against her constitutional rights for him to search her. I dont know if she ever made it on her plane.

I think its the passengers and what they pack that scares me the most.
