Re: Hey Kerri!

SO... we still haven't booked! We are wondering if it would be better to do something else for our honeymoon, and plan this trip for one of our anniversarys. That way we could go in low season. The price in high season for our Honeymoon is a little over $7300 for six nights in an overwater bungalow at the Pearl in Bora Bora, which isn't a bad price. But, it frustrates me to know that we could get an even better deal in low seaseon. So, know I have no clue what to do!

Maybe check out the Paul Gauguin cruise. It's a small luxury cruise that only holds about 300-350 people. It's very different than typical cruises and it's an intimate ship, which is nice for a honeymoon. It frequently leaves from Tahiti and goes to a bunch of islands in the FP. For a 7 night cruise their least expensive cabin runs less than $6500 in May 2010 (this is for 2 people before taxes). June 2010 is a little more expensive. They also have longer cruises which go FP and other locations such as Fiji and Cook Islands.

What is great about this cruise is that all food and drinks (including alcohol) are included. They also have some activities included in the price..you can do kayaking, windsurfing (I think that is what it's called) and some other activities off the back of the ship when it is tendered/docked. They also have some beach days included in the price where you can choose to go to a private motu and they have a bbq and serve drinks...there may be some activities as well..I just can't remember. Also, when the honeymoon is over, the ship has you disembark in the morning. Since many flights don't leave until the evening, the cruiseline hooks you up with a day pass at a hotel on Tahiti so you can relax and have fun until your flight later in the day (this is also included in the price).

They have a special deal going on right now that if you book before December 18th for a 2010 cruise you can either get 2 for 1 airfare from LAX to Tahiti OR free airfare from LAX to Tahiti (it depends on how long the cruise is..the 2 for 1 is for less than 9 nights I think and the completely free airfare is for 9+ nights I think).

FH and I are pretty sure we will go on this cruise for our honeymoon. We may add on one or two nights pre-cruise in an overwater bungalow on Moorea so that we have the overwater experience as well. It just seems a lot more cost efficient because the food and drinks are included (which I heard can be very expensive in FP). BTW..the food is supposedly amazing on the ship!! If you read reviews of the ship on CruiseCritic.com, you will see that lots of people have great things to say about both the ship and the food! Some people say that the food and service is better on the ship than the resorts on land (this is probably because it is considered a luxury cruise). And it's also nice because you get to see different FP islands without having to hop on a plane.

Also, a past LIW bride, AutmBride, went on this cruise. Here is the link to her honeymoon review that has pics!!

Re: Hey Kerri!

Thank you for the info! FH and I have been on three different cruises. He is more into cruising then I am. I really wanted French Polynesia for the whole overwater experience. But, the food being so expensive is a big part of our worry. So, having it included on the cruise is a big moneysaver. I'll definitely look into it. Thanks again!
