Hi! I just got engaged less then 1 month ago!!!

I was on another site, but there are not too many people on it. I have been lurking here lately and found everyone to be very supportive!

My name is Kristin and I just got engaged 9/27!!! We were together for a looooooooooong time.

Hmmm, where to start? How about your engagement story? What you are thinking about for your wedding??

He did the whole take me on vacation and by the way ther is something in your glass of wine!! We were on a cruise and he had it planned that they would bring us 2 glasses of wine. In mine was my ring!!!!

Now the entire boat new about it> It was so cool. They even gave us 2 free massages!

I'd say start with the hall and church. It can be a bit overwhelming in the beginning, so take one thing at a time. It looks like you have plenty of time, so try to enjoy it!! LIW is an amazing resource, you will find all the help you need here!

Liek the girls said, start with teh time of year and budget which you can usuallky lower your budget if youare flexible. Next i would say decide on the amount of people and satrt looking at halls that can accomadate the amount. Look around at a bunch of halls so you are sure you wantto book it.

I'd start off by setting a date and then going to look at reception venues. Everything else should fall into place after that.

congratulations!! here is my advice, if you are going to get married in a church, first reserve the date w/ the church, then look for reception places. those were the first things i did. i would suggest getting the 'locations' magazine. it helped me a lot where minimums and price p/p was concerned. not to mention the girls here are extremely helpful and give a lot of good advice. good luck with all your planning!!!!

You got engaged on my father's birthday!! Congrats!!!

You've got plenty of time. My advise, relax, listen, ask questions, bounce ideas around in here. You'd be surprise at some of the stuff these ladies will think of. I think of this as a great place to play out your wants and needs for you wedding before committing yourself you anything.

It looks like you're wedding is set for 2005...I would relax a little - enjoy your engagement! But then I'd dive right into what type of wedding you want (size, formality), where you want it and go from there.

Anyway, I agree with with the other girls - figure out a budget, and then halls/churches. Also, get a vague guest list number range so that when the halls ask you how many people you're having you can at least give them a basic idea. My hall had two rooms that would accomodate my party, but each one had different minimums on the number of guests, ie, I had to guarantee a minimum number of plates they'd be serving in the room.

ALSO, Look at a bunch of planning sites. While I love the boards here, I prefer the planning tools on other sites (sorry, LIWeddings!). I actually use 3 or 4 planning sites in all. Different people have different styles.
