Hi Ladies- I need help!!

I don't really post on here much. I have definetly gotten some great ideas from here though and now I need some advice.

I am planning an 11/3/07 wedding. I have my church and reception venue but haven't gotten/booked anything else. I also would liek to add that my reception venue is jsut teh venue so I have to get a acterer, chairs, linens, tables etc.

I am having a hard time getting into the whole planning thing.
I visited a few photographers, a few caterers and tried on a few dresses but I haven't settled on anything.
Can someone give me advice on how they started? Did you focus on one thing at a time etc.?

I am beginning to get slightly nervous when I start to see all the fall brides haev photo/video etc booked and have thier dresses all ready!

Thanks for your help!

i would begin with vendors that book up quickly----like a photographer. a photographer can only do one event a day, so once one bride books them, that's it. a florist on the other hand can handle more than one job in a day, so you have a little more time with that. i'd start with the florist, then the band/dj, caterer, start looking for a dress within the next month or so (it takes time for them to order it).... it's alot in the beggining, but once the big things are out of the way, you'll feel relief!!! good luck :)

I started with the major vendors:

Hall
Phote/Video
DJ
Dress
Flowers
Limos

And then just take it from there. It took me a while to get into the whole planning thing, but once I did, things just started rolling. Good luck!

Thanks ladies!
I guess I am a bit overwhwlmed. My FH and I also purchased a house in the last month and are gutting it. So right now I am so focused on that. Wveryone keeps asking me anout the wedding and I never have anything to update them on as far as vendors etc so it's getting kind of embarassing. I figured I really have to get it together and start.

I was going throught the same thing, I totally understand you.

Start with the hall. It is the first and most important thing to do. When you book the hall, you can start looking for other vendors, but you need to know the date for sure.

And relax! You have so much time ahead of you! I got engaged in Nov, and I am having a June 07 wedding, so I have 7 months to plan a wedding!!

Focus on one thing at a time, and set a time limit of 2-3 weeks. So for example, starting now you will begin researching photographers. Get some referrals, check out the Knot.com, and set up 3 appt.s. I find that if you meet with 3 of a vendor, you'll usually find one that you click with.
Then, make it a point to go through magazines to see what styles of dresses you like/dislike. Make some appt.s on Saturdays with dress places. Don't rush into a dress.....they tell you that you have to order it several months in advance, and rush you but the truth is that you can get it in 3 months. DON'T RUSH THAT PART.
I just did one thing at a time, and got it all done pretty fast. In 5 months!

I could not agree with Future Mrs. more on that!

Take a deep breath. I have a book called the 'Anti-Bride Wedding Planner'

it has lists you can go through, check off and fill in with your info as you go along. Order one from Amazon - it will help!

the order I did:
venue
band
church
photographer/video
flowers
dress
BM dress
limo
rings
tuxedo

good luck! FM if you need help!
invitations

definitely start with your major items first...the vendors. I would also focus on one at a time. like first band/dj, then florists. If you do different ones at the same time, i think it can be overwhelming. Good luck. FM me if you need anything!

Re: Hi Ladies- I need help!!

I'm a November bride so I know what you are feeling definitely. I would focus on one vendor at a time for sure and I'd look at the major vendors first like reception hall, caterer, church (if you are having ceremony outside of the RH), photo and video. I met with only a few photographers b/c a lot of them were already booked for my date and this was back in December because I started wedding planning as soon as we got engaged back in November. And these vendors book up real quick...the good ones anyway. Not trying to freak you out, because you still have time to get things done but I would really start now finding vendors. Here's my advice: You have the RH which is great, so now start looking for a caterer. Meet with a few and do some taste tests. I found this to be really hard though because sometimes you can tell when food is bad and other times, the food tastes no different from one vendor to another so that's why I used other factors to influence who we ultimately used. At the same time while looking for caterers, I'd research photographers and videographers and find out their availabilities and pricing and set up appointments for those. Also, if you are confused on where to look for vendors, you can do searches on here (which is what I did and found great vendors from all the girl's recommendations) or you can see who your RH recommends and contact those vendors. Then I'd worry about the remaining vendors like florists, DJ, limousines, etc. And as someone else suggested, go start looking around for dresses. My receommendation would be to go to RK Bridal because they have a wide selection of designer wedding gowns and just try on different dresses to get a feel. And don't commit to buying anything right away, even if they make you worry that it takes a long time to order it. And another thing that my mom keeps telling me too, when they ask when your wedding date is, tell them a MONTH before your actual date. I haven't done this but I may start doing that so that you will guarantee your dress to be there by your wedding date. If you need any help with anything or questions about anything...FM me! Hope this helped!
