Everything in my house is shades of brown - its very soothing and easy to accent with but looking at the gorgeous green in Marcella's house and other peoples red dining rooms and lovely colors makes me sad that I don't have the guts to do it.
I think I need a support group
How do you girls do it - I need to know or I will forever live in a taupe, mocha, cream and white world

The way I think it's not permanent, you know> you can always paint over it.. so why not!

I know - its just hard to break the habit. I'm drawn to brown.
Its so bad that even my husband is making fun of me. We are redoing one of our bathrooms and we picked a light creamy brown tile with a funky border - I so wanted to do something in a nice green but nothing hit us..........only the brown.
At least when we decide to have kids their rooms will have color

No I'm with you on this one. My husband and I said that when we move we are forcing ourselves to use colors. We see other people's homes and LOVE them and then we're always going back to beige! I am thinking about painting our small guest bathroom a light purple..... let's see how that turns out!

Be a wild woman and just try it! Like Marcella said, you can paint over it! I LOVE the color that I painted my family room - it's called cinnabar - it's like brick red with a touch of cinnamon. Very soothing, just like your browns

Look at it this way - brown goes with so much you already have a nice base coat that will coordinate with tons of other colors.
I love the deep colors but cant do too much with it b/c my house is small...so I did one wall in a deep burgandy. Maybe try that and see how you like it. Its like a first step

Ohhhhhhhhh, I'm all fancy and in style - thanks Cooky
We just moved in and painted - took us forever b/c we painted the ENTIRE top half of the house and foyer so the color will have to wait. I can't even think of repainting just yet.

I know how you feel. I was the same way. It took me months to decide on paint colors for our LR & DR because I wanted color but was fighting it. I finally just jumped in and did it. I am so glad I did.

I find myself leaning toward neutral, 'safe' colors too...maybe i'll try one wall in a darker shade like sonicstef suggests.
btw, lorimari, I love your avatar!!!!!

I am in your shoes too. I don't like a lot of color and prefer accents over a whole area in one color/shade.

Instead of leaping in, you could go gradual. Pick a color in the brown family - go with something that has an orange base to it or a cinnamon undertone. Something with a little punch without being too shocking for you.
Personally, I like the shock affect.

Dietzer - thanks.......isn't he a cutie :)
Colleen - I think that is a great idea - go gradual. We just painted the entire house 3 months ago so gradual works. The thought of painting anything within the next year kills me - I hate painting.
