I'm contemplating having my hair highlighted (I've never had it done before). How soon and how many times would I need to have it done before the wedding, which is 4 weeks from this Thursday?
Thank you!

Re: Highlighting Question
I get my hair highlighted every 4-5 months. I have not done it in awhile in order to get all the old highlights to come out before I do it again for the wedding. I am getting mine done this Saturday and I am getting married a week before you.

Re: Highlighting Question
I wouldn't do more than once before the wedding, but it may be hard to get exactly the right shade the first time. Go once ASAP and have them dry your hair straight to see how they look. Go again if it isn't light enough--I think better to start with subtle ones and go lighter. Good luck!

Re: Highlighting Question
If you had it done now you wouldn't need it again before your wedding.
However since you've never had it done before I would definitely sit down with my hairdresser and discuss all the details about it. For example - if you don't like it can it be fixed?

Re: Highlighting Question
I would do it now. You don't want anything new before the wedding. This way, if you don't like it, you can change it. YOu shouldnt' need touch ups in the next 4 weeks unless your hair grows fast. I usually need a touch up ever 3 months.

Re: Highlighting Question
If you've never had highlites before, I wouldn't use your wedding as a time to find out if you like them or not - JMO.

Re: Highlighting Question
Generally I have to do mine every 4 weeks, but my hair grows like a weed and I'm going from a medium brown to very blonde.
Are you sure you want to do this so close to the wedding, having never done highlights before?
Not to be the voice of doom, but I would do it soon enough so there is time to fix it in case you don't like it.

Re: Highlighting Question
Only once. I do mine every 3 and a half months. I think you should get yours done maybe the first or second week of September.
You better make sure the hairdresser knows exactly what you want. Try to find a picture that shows what you want for yourself.

Re: Highlighting Question
I vote for not doing it before the wedding. If you do get it done, your hairdresser can generally color your hair over the highlights at about two weeks.

Re: Highlighting Question
I dont know if i would do it before the wedding because if you hate it it is really hard to get your color back in such a short time. Sometimes it looks racoon like in pictures if it is too severe. Be careful and go subtle if u decide to do it

I would personally NOT get highlights when I've never had them before 4 weeks before my wedding. JMO.
If you are to do it, do it 1 1/2 to 2 weeks before the wedding so they're not too bright but not washed out either.

Re: Highlighting Question
Okay ladies, I think you have convinced me Not to get highlights before the wedding! I would be so upset if I didn't like them, and I definitely don't need that extra stress! (I have enough stress already!)
Thank you all for your replies!! I really appreciate your opinions and advice!!
