hilton hunt or melville marriott??

we're trying to decide which hotel to stay in and reserve rooms for our guests. marriott doesn't have a bar besides the atrium one and that closes at 12 am and they won't leave it opened for guests to hang out in after the reception. hilt hunt has a bar and they'll stay open till 3am. i'm getting married in nov and we are doing our pictures beforehand. we are planning to find a site outdoors but in case of bad weather we may consider doing some inside in the hotel. i think melv marriott is much nicer than the hilt hunt concerning the lobby area. what do you think?

Melville Marriott definitely. It's more important to have a good backup plan for pictures than a bar that stays open an extra 3 hours for guests to hang out in. It's not like there's no place at all for them to hang out. Absolutely consider your guests, but draw the line at some point so you're not compromising your day.

I chose the Hilton over the Marriot for my guests, here is why:

1. You have to give the Marriot a credit card and guarantee that 50% of your block is booked otherwise YOU pay! The Hilton does not require any guarantee of money from you!

2. The bar situation you mentioned.

3. We have over 125,000 Marriot pts from my FH's travel with work and they still didn't give us any leeway (sp?) or assistance and were RUDE!


As far as pictures are concerned - your hall will probably have a nicer indoor spot than either hotel. Good Luck deciding!

We chose the Hilton over the Marriot as well, much because of the same reaons. Plus, we just liked the Hilton a lot better, the Marriot had a very business feel to it. Another big reasons was that the person that showed us around had such an attitude whereas everyone we talked to at the Hilton was very nice.

I went with the Marriot Melville and did not have to give a credit card or 50% or get stuck with anything! I think she mentioned this but I told her it was ridiculous and she said fine... I also went with them because I got it for $99- I was looking to give my out of town guests the best value.

I do think, though, that you should go w. the place with the better pictures- not the longer bar.

I hate to say this...but we used the Hilton...and I hated it!!!

* our room was gross
* no congratulations of any sort
* the billed us wrong
* the brunch the next day was cold and awful...and my mom paid $20+ pp for it


I think jennbaby had a better experience...

oh yabbobay- that's so awful! maybe i'll stick to the marriott. any suggestions on how to do a little after party? the reception ends at 12 30 and i know my friends will want to stay up a bit longer. i don't want to go to a bar in the area bc they won't have a way to get back to the hotel (we are doing a shuttle bus from chcc to hotel).

I wanted to book the Huntington Hilton for me and my FH and the guests for my Wedding July 4th of next year but they told me I couldn't because they have a seminar booked for that weekend already. I think it's a beautiful indoor place to take pictures. I ended up blocking rooms at the Melville Marriott who were more than helpful to me. They did not require a credit card nor do I get charged for any of the rooms that do not get booked.

i got the same service at both hotels. both were very responsive to my needs. i didn't want to put my credit card to hold the rooms at the marriott and she waived that from the contract. hilton didn't even ask me to do that. hilton priced the room $40 higher and they brought down the price to what i got quoted at marriott. i think i need to take a look at both hotels again to see how their lobbies are- from what i remember marriott is more spacious with their ceiling height but huntington has the greenery.

yabbobay- that's true. whether or not i join my friends i'm sure they'll want to hang out with each other esp since they are all spread out on the east coast so they don't get to see each other much.

but i'll see which one i like for pictures 1st and base the decision on that- not about where there is a bar.

is anyone doing pictures at old westbury gardens? it looks beautiful but i can't decide if it's worth the $200+
