I am trying to plan my sisters backyard wedding for as little money as possible. I heard that you can hire student photographers from local schools to do weddings. Has anybody heard of this or done this? What schools? Thanks!! Jamie

Be careful....try to speak to the professors perhaps...maybe thay can recommend a student with a good eye? Or post flyers? The thing Ive read about photography is that a photographer may have a great eye for nature and another for people poses but wedding photography is another kind of animal. There are many traditional shots and other shots that should be taken at a weding specifically and it would be ashame if they werent.
IMO, do some research on this site to find cheaper photographers to take care of the majority of the shots. The college student could maybe focus on the photojournalistic shots...

I'm a photo student at Nassau CC in Garden City. FM me with details if you want me to ask around. There's a few students that I know have done weddings before. You can also ask to see some of the work they've done.

Some of the students at Nassau are MUCH better than some of the 'cheaper' photographers I've come across. Many of the students would probably do it just to get more experience.

yea i would sit down and ask to see their portfolio and request you want some actual portrait shots or journalistic shots mostly in the port along with their 'other' stuff. Honestly I got hired at a pro-line to do weekend shoots but i only made it once and hated it so I only pick up a camera to take nature shots.
Nassau C.C., CW Post - if you want to do city FIT, PRATT, SVA (but city kids will cost more but if you find one living on the island those are the top schools)

I think thats a great way to save money, there are plenty of very skilled amateuers... just make sure you find someone whose style suits your needs.

Make sure your RH is OK: some want insurance from vendors. Not sure if this is a problem with photographers.

also i would go with a student that has already done one or two weddings - i wouldnt want to risk MY wedding as their first ya know? students tend to get exponentially better with experience!

check with Ayadali.... she had a friend work along side with her photographers at her wedding and the friends pictures were much better! send her an FM
