Although we are planning to get married in my family church, I always wanted to be married in a Historical Church. If any one has any idea or knows of one please let me know. I've been searching and I am getting no where. I've been looking for a church in Nassau or Western Suffolk. Thank you.

Don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for, but the chapel at St. Dominic's in Oyster Bay is one of the oldest on the island - and it's unbelievably beautiful - but I'm certainly biased.

It is tight if you expect a lot of people. But worth a look if you don't expect a huge crowd at the ceremony.
Not sure if it's historical, but St Agnes in Rockville Centre is huge and supposedly very beautiful inside. We passed by the other day and FH was in awe....

Re: Historical Church
That's where we're having our ceremony. I don't think that it has any 'historical status' per se, but every church has history. It is the diocese for LI so that makes it special.
oooooohhh, you are so lucky!! My church is a tiny little country thing, cute, but totally different from st. agnes! Congrats!

Re: Historical Church
thanks, we're actually not sure we're using the cathedral though. We have it reserved, but they have this chapel that used to be used for the sisters to take their vows that's really intimate and has a very cool feel to it, but it's really tiny so we have to see how many rsvps we get. If we have a small group we may opt for the chapel. Part of me likes the enormous aisle and part of me also likes the intimate setting. I can't decide. Depends on which day you ask me, but it's nice to have the option.

Re: Historical Church
I've only driven by it, but I've always thought that St. Brigid's in Westbury was a very beautiful church. don't know what area you're looking for. I'm also partial to my childhood churches in Queens. My mother was married in and I was baptized in St. Pancras, one of the most beautiful cathedrals I've ever seen with my mother swears the longest aisle on earth. We grew up going to Sacred Heart in Glendale, which has a very cute, country sort of a feel to it. Smaller than St. Pancras, but still a plenty big church. Good luck with your search. Keep in mind that catholic churches can be difficult on the issue of church shopping. They prefer you get married in the parish you belong to, but other churches are much more flexible. My girlfriend got married in a very nice Episcopal church in Pt Washington. Very small, which made for a great intimate setting for a small wedding. Sorry so long.

Re: Historical Church
Hi! Thanks Snowprincess for mentioning my church! Old First Church in Huntington is a Presbyterian Church. I could go on and on (talk to my FH) but it's somewhat unique in that while its historical (It's been around since the 1600s we still have one of the Bells from the 1800s) it's very 'classic' in its look--less is more! If you need contact info, please let me know!
