HM

Did anyone book their HM yet? We're getting married in May but Im finishing up my graduate degree and will need to student teach in July so we're probably not going on a HM til August. We want to do a cruise I think to Bermuda or some other tropical place. Do you think we should book it through a travel agent or do it on our own?

Re: HM

If your going to book a cruise you don't need to book it through a travel agent. When you book your cruise you can sign up for activities on the shore that the ship offers... or when you get off the ship at the port you can just find a local. I’ve gone on 9 cruises and have never used a travel agent, i would recommend Royal Caribbean

We are not taking our official official HM until well after the wedding (like Jan 2012). We are actually going to FH's cousin's wedding in Ireland in the summer of 2011 so we will be making a long trip out of it and visiting England, Paris, and Ireland (possibly Spain) - but we will be with FH's family during this trip so we totally don't count this as the HM LOL.

Our real HM will be in Jamaica and we will probably book that sometime next summer.

It doesn't hurt to talk to a travel agent AND do your own research. TA's have a lot of useful info and can save you money in a lot of instances. If they don't have the lowest prices or can't match, you can always book yourself.. My TA gets the lowest prices (beats travel sites) and throws in a free gift.. I think its worth it to give it a try

FH and I went on a cruise in May, and we went to an agent in January. He literally showed us the books, then called the Royal Caribbean hotline and got a price. I was like 'well I could do that!' so we did. He threw in nothing free, nor an upgrade. I had so much fun planning the trip myself and researching it. c r u i s e c r i t i c . c o m is a great resource.

We went on Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas to Barbados, Antigua, St. Lucia, St. Maarten and St. Croix.

Re: HM

I just sat with a an agent today she only takes 300 down to hold your room and u can pay whenever she was really nice. She said if the rates go down that they will give me the cheaper price which was good I thought

yeah we have A LOT of details to work out about this trip. Nothing is set in stone except the fact that we are going to England and Ireland (all the other places are up in the air at this point). We can't even look into flights until around October so we'll figure it out by then. I know we are most likely staying with FH's family while we are there so we won't have to worry about a place to stay (he has family in both places).

FM me if you need a great travel agent. It would be great especially if you have transfers to diff cities, etc, etc
