HM cruise or aruba?need help

Hey girls!

Me and my FH have been looking into honeymoon spots. Him and his family are all about going on a cruise for our honeymoon. However, I've never been on a cruise and I do get motion sickness. So, I'm in the air about what to do. Because I'm afraid I'm going to get sick. Does anybody have any info about aruba or cruises?

TIA fausha

I am not sure what would be best for you guys, but if it makes you feel any better my friend and I went on a cruise two years ago. She gets motion sick really bad on planes and was afraid she would feel awful on the boat but decided to give it a try. She felt totally fine the whole trip! This might not be the case for everyone though. If you do feel sick, the bracelets for your wrists or things that go behind your ears really help.

u could always take a cruise to aruba? that way u do both.. i think cruises are a lot of fun. loads to do and i also get motion sickness but dont get sick on boats.. the first night i think i felt a little motion but after that first night i was fine..
i'd recommend it!! actually fh and i are going on 2 cruises this year! (carnival and disney)

maybe u can do a little cruise like spirit of NY or something to get an idea (but i dont receommend the nautical cruises out of freeport cause i hear those are very hard rides)

I have done cruises and gone to aruba. I didn't really like Aruba... it was kind of boring. There is really only one main strip, but I guess its relaxing and great for a very quiet honeymoon. Also the flight was kind of long, and in my opinion not worth it. My recomendation for cruises is if you think that you might get motion sickness I would stick to a cruise were you are not traveling at sea for more then 2 days. The more stops, generally the less time at sea. Any time you are at see for long periods of time the larger the chance of getting motion sickness. I've been to almost every tropical island and my favorite thus far was definetly the Bahamas. The flight is also not very long.. If you really do get motion sickness I would stay away from cruises because I never have motion sickness, but one cruise I went on really made me feel sick. I think it was because of the weather. It really isn't worth risking your honeymoon and being sick. Maybe one day you guys should try a shorter cruise for 3 days to see if you can handle it.

I have done cruises and have gone to Aruba- I MUCH prefer cruises...

To avoid getting motion sickness- take Bonine- does not make you drowsy and you can drink with it- and it really works- get a balcony or at least a window room- in the center of the ship

I've done both. I don't get motion sickness.

Cruises are lots of fun & full of action while being relaxing.

BUT>>>>>You get motion sickness. I think you already made your decision. Aruba is beautiful. Quiet yes....but beautiful. You can spice it up with an ATV tour, jeep tour, renting a car, etc. It's more expensive than the cruise (by FAR)...but if you can afford it....And you don't have to risk being sick.

You're right- When I cruise I always get a balcony room, so it's more $$ but it's worth it. And there's always that nasty little surprise at the end of the trip when you get your booze bill!!

yeah depends on the cruise line, this was on crown princess, but there def are alot of less expensive cruises.

HAHAHAH very true, sometimes you dont realize how much you're spending with the card they give you lol...I have to say though on princess the drinks were a great price, very low. But things do add up

True....it DOES depend on the cruise...and you can potentially find a bargain in Aruba.

I'm comparing a 7 day cruise from FL on Carnival to Western Carribean (Carnival was a pleasant surprise...I am a cruising novice...but it had some GREAT food & the comedy shows every night were some of the best I've been to). I thought it was pretty affordable...

To a 7 day stay at the Radisson in Aruba. It was a beautiful hotel & not cheap...but the food killed us (which was not an issue during the cruise)...it was $10 each for lunch: a sandwich, at least $10 a day for a tropical drink & $50 for dinner... That makes close to $200 a day per couple for food. Times 7 that made $1400. We calculated this (unfortunately AFTER our cash disappeared). We DID go out to restaurants each night (could have gone to Subway & less expensive options...which we did start to do at the end). But my point: Food costs more for less in Aruba. You also have to note that the mandatory add tip & then you tip them on top (kinda like wedding vendors). This made food 30% more.

We almost did a cruise for our HM but it came down to the cruise we really wanted didn't fit with the dates we wanted for our HM..... so it could depend on your flexibility with dates/cruises.

just something to think about...hurricanes in October!! I was thinking of the Carribean for our HM but I didn't want to risk it. Aruba is not in the hurricane belt (or whatever its called), and the weather is supposed to be nice all year.

Aruba. Go to Aruba. I went there for my surprise engagement. We had a fabulous time.

I'd recommend a cruise. And if you have your heart set on Aruba, take a cruise that stops in Aruba. FH and I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise last year that stopped at ARuba for two days. Aruba is beautiful, but not much to do there...I'd get so bored staying there for like a week. Check out the Royal Caribbean cruise...the ship is Adventure of the Seas. It leaves from Puerto Rico, goes to Aruba, then Curacao, St Maarten and St Thomas. It was a great cruise and you really dont even feel the ship moving, so you shouldnt really have much motion sickness.

Re: HM cruise or aruba?need help

I have done 2 cruises and decided I would rather just get to the island right away and spend all my time there. Cruises to me are more of a group vacation type of atmosphere. And Im a total beach bum and always feel like I have to watch the time when we are at port which keeps me from truly relaxing. But thats just how I am. If I were in your situation, I would def choose Aruba! I know people who have been there and they say if they did it on a cruise, it would be super hard to leave as it is just wonderful!

Also, FH and I got seasick on our last cruise which kinda ruined our days at sea.

We're going on a Royal Caribbean cruise, we got a balcony room for a little over $1000 each. We booked last October, now those rooms are much more expensive. so book early if you decide!!

Re: HM cruise or aruba?need help

You could always try a short cruise 4-5 days just to see if you like the cruising style. Then you could always go to Aruba or anywhere else.

Just to give you an idea, last year we went on a 4 night cruise to the Bahamas on Royal Carribean. I've been on several but FH had never been on a cruise and thought he might get sea sick.

FH loved it soooo much so we decided to do both a cruise and a trip. We're going away right after the wedding for less than a week (we're thinking Vegas). Then in May, we're planning on taking a 7 night cruise in Europe. We'll probably stay a few extra days as well.

I personally have never been on a cruise but FH has been. I am not a person who gets motion sickness often but I have on a small boat when I was younger.

Anyway, we were going to go to Aruba but I know how much he wants to take a cruise and to be honest with you, you visit so many different islands and it seems fun. We are taking a cruise from San Juan to Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten and St. Thomas.

If you think you are definitely going to get sick from the cruise, then I would not do it for your honeymoon. Save that for another time.
