So, FH told me last night that he really wants to go on a cruise for the HM, instead of just going to an Island.
I'm doing some research online through AAA, but, there is so much I don't know.
We want to do Eastern or Southern caribbean..... preferrably out of S. Florida, but, are willing to go out of Puerto Rico. (We want to try for S. Florida because we would add a couple days to the beginning and drive down to Key West.)
I guess my questions are:
What ships do I avoid (I've heard Carnival)
Should we spring for a balcony, or is a room with a window okay? (I just don't want to feel like I am in a dungeon)
Are there certain parts (floors) of the ship to avoid staying on?
And, really, any other general information would be appreciated!!!
TIA
ETA: Do you need a passport for a cruise? I have mine, but, FH lost his.... and is clearly in no rush to get another one.

Re: HM Help w/ cruises!
I would love to help you find cruises! I'd like to think of myself as a cruise expert and avid traveler! Actually, I love researching this kind of stuff. I'd be happy to help! For a honeymoon, I would stay away from Carnival. My two cruise lines of choice are Royal Caribbean and Princess. They have great new ships and great ports to choose from! Also, it's your honeymoon, get a balcony if you can afford it! I've usually gotten oceanview, and last year we did a balcony, and I swear I would never NOT get a balcony! Actually, if you can swing it, go for a mini-suite! Try CruiseCompete.Com. It's a website that lets you put in roughly what you are looking for and then cruise agencies shoot you back emails with prices and on-board credit. They 'compete' with one another!

Thanks so much!!!!
I'm pretty sure we are going with a 7night Princess cruise, Crown Princess, out of PR, going to St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Grenada, Bonaire and Aruba.
I did a bunch of research today, and that was the best deal!!!! We got a price for a balcony for just under $2k total!
I'm really excited.....

Me and FH love to cruise. We have been on RC, Norwegian, Carnival and Holland America. I agree with everyone else, RC is a great cruise line, especially for your honeymoon. We always book oceanview rooms and although a balcony would be nice I would probably save the money to spend on the islands also. Go with a newer boat and they will have a huge casino. They also have Poker Tournaments during the day that you can enter. I have always found really good prices on mycruisevalue.com. hth

Thanks! It doesn't include airfare.... but, that is such a good price, and so much less than we were planning on spending if we went to just 1 island for a week...... which means....... more spending money!!!!!!!!

Re: HM Help w/ cruises!
i've done carnival and royal carribeean.. bout to do disney.. although i don't think u want that.. but then again their balcony rooms have jacuzzis on the balcony.. *which blew my mind when i saw that on the dvd*..
noreweign is stuffy.. or at least it looks that way.. the carnival i went on had too many smoking areas.. the royal carribean i went on was cool.. nice.. i kept thinking to myself wow.. i wih i was here with someone..lol..
hmm.. the carnival i went on was nice other wise.. we had a balcony..
the one thing u shoujld point out to hubby and look for when u'r booking is that some cruises dont stay in port long.. the other prob i had with my carnival cruise (we just came back 7/22 matter of fact!) is that the boat was only docked from 9 to 5.. what the heck is that? that means u had to get up at the crack of dawn to get any real beach time..
i looked at royal caribean (we're considering acruise for our honey moon also and they seem to be in port longer.. (at least on the ones i checked..)

Re: HM Help w/ cruises!
cruises are great..and i've been on 3 carnival cruises and they were awesome! so im surprised to hear that..only thing is carnival tends to have a lot of families and kids..so i think i would stick to royal carribean..definately go to jamaica, st thomas, tortola..these places were gorgeous! all the islands are gorgeous..but on every one there are some sleezy spots so be careful!

Yes, FH needs a passport and have him file the lost passport form NOW! You'll be stopping at non US territories so he'll need it.
FH and I have done 2 eastern/southern cruises both on Royal Caribbean. We had a blast both times. We had a balcony room. The rooms are small and it's nice being able to open a door for fresh air let alone have light in the room. People we met on the cruises say they had been on other cruise lines before then came on RC and haven't switched since so I highly recommend them. We had a great experience both times. Both of our cruises left out of Puerto Rico. You can get great deals on JetBlue.
HTH! FM if you want more info!

Re: HM Help w/ cruises!
Thanks so much girls, you've all been REALLY helpful, and I appreciate it!!!
Oh, the only reason I said no for Carnival was that I heard it was generally a family/kid and *young* cruise....... I just want to try and avoid that for my HM!

Re: HM Help w/ cruises!
Also, I keep telling FH to go and get another passport!!! It's so easy to do in PA, he can do it at the courthouse, and he is there all the time!!!! He's just sooooo lazy.
Whatever, I'll bring my grandma on my HM if he doesn't get it!!!

Re: HM Help w/ cruises!
You def. want a balcony. You will love it. FH and I are going on the Disney cruise and I made sure we had the balcony. I also got the bigger room because well one it is our honeymoon and I think we need to treat ourselves and two I think I would feel really closed in in the small room. Let us know what you decide.

Yay...its an awesome site isn't it?
I wish we coulda done the balcony but it was too expensive for us. With the airfare woulda just been crazy.
I know everyone says we shoulda splurged but we're already doing that by going to Europe.

Re: HM Help w/ cruises!
It is a GREAT site!!! I'm assuming that any one of those companies that give prices are okay to use? Maybe you can FM me and tell me the exact agent you used of the choices you were provided with???
The price difference between a balcony and no balcony was about $300, so, worth the splurge, IMO. Plus, they said the window had an obstructed view.

Re: HM Help w/ cruises!
i LOVE LOVE LOVE carnival - i dont know why so many people dont like it i had at HORRIBLE time on Norwegian
for our HM we're doing Royal Caribbean
the higher the floor, the better and you dont feel engine - you want to stay in the middle of the ship - not at either end
i like a balcony - personal preference
