HM question - cruise out of NY?

Has anyone taken a cruise out of NY? Is this a good idea?
I am trying to find a HM for under 3k but the cost of airfare is killing me.

We did 2 cruises out of NY, one to Nova Scotia & another to the Carribean (Norwegian Dawn & Carnival Victory). We had a wonderful time on both cruises....LOTS of New Yorkers & lots of kids however (although we had to go when school was out as I'm a teacher). Yet the cruises were both wonderful. FM me w/ any q's. I'd highly recommend it.

My aunt did a cruise out of NY or NJ (can't remember) to Bermuda for 7 days. One day there and one day back and 5 days in the middle, you are in Bermuda. I thought that sounded pretty cool. Not sure what the weather is like in March or if you will take your honeymoon later.

We're taking one in July for our HM. We're going on NCL to the Caribbean (out of NYC). The cruise we're taking is 8 nights but I'm sure you can find shorter cruises that will fit within your budget. I booked through an agent but I did a lot of research on orbitz to find out what cruises leave from NY and what destinations they visited. We can't wait to go!

Re: HM question - cruise out of NY?

I have been on about 5 out of New York. I just went on the NCL Dawn in June. There was so much traffic getting to the ports. It was actually easier when we fly some where. The boat was nice and we did have a good time. If you do go on a cruise out of NY, I suggest going to Bermuda. It is one of my favorite places. I would also look into going out of Bayonne New Jersery.

You should try finding air fare out of Fort Lauderdale. The airport is so close to the ports. They have nicer boats and better cruises going out of florida. You can easily do everything for under $3k. Look into the Princess cruise line. Beautiful boats and good prices. Also, the Holland America line is suppose to be great and the rooms are huge.
I take southwest to Florida all the time and my air fare has never been more then $180 a person. Look for a deal, they are everwhere.

FM if you need any help!!

We sruised out of NY and it was GREAT.. not a bad commute for drop off, and once you get on you feel like you are miles away already! Saved us a bundle.. We booked through Dawn and Brian at Cruise one.. They were great to work with and helped us find the best deal..

OH-- the best advice.. get a room with a balcony.. it was private, so we could go out and have our coffee in the AM and watch the whales in the ocean and the stars at night.. SUPER romantic..

Feel free to Fm me for details, or any ?'s!!
Oh our cruise was royal carribean serenade of the seas

Did Bermuda out of NJ, almost the same. It was great, no airplane to go on, no hassle of the airport, parking was great.....I would highly recommend it.

We did one cruise out of NY to Bermuda back in 2002 & it was one of the best vacations! From the moment you left your door in the morning, you were on vacation! No hassle of waiting in the airport for a flight & the possiblilty of luggage being lost! The minute you boarded that ship, you started to drink & eat & have a great time!

This is one of the reasons why we decided to do a 10 Eastern Caribbean Cruise out of NY for our HM! We wanted to know that we would start enjoying ourselves from the moment we locked out house! The price is unbeatable too!

you can't beat the convenience that's for sure! i also did the norwegian dawn cruise to the bahamas. it was my first and last. to be honest, i have mixed feelings for em. the bad point is there's plenty of rowdy teenagers running around. it def dampens a nice end to a beautiful view. just please go when kids are still in school. the good points.. great dining, great service and nice shows.
have fun on your hm.

love the convenience and the savings on airfare, but the downside (depending on destination) is that you have more 'days at sea' than if you leave from somewhere closer to the destination. yes, there is tons of stuff to do on the ship and if you and FH are cool with that, then go for it! FH and I haven't travelled a lot in the last few years and we want to spend as many days as possible in our destination!

try SW for cheap flights to FL
