HM Question: Dominican Republic

HM Question: Dominican Republic

There's a good chance we've narrowed down the HM to DR - but not sure between Puerto Plata and Punta Cana which might be better. We're honestly just looking to enjoy the beach, do a bunch of activities (that are not a crazy amount), and eat drink and be married

Anyone been to either and can provide some feedback?

I've never been there, but my ex-coworker has, and she has been to both and I remember her saying she LOVED Punta Cana. Her whole family goes, there's like 15 of them.

I only been to Punta Cana is a lovely place.
Great food, people, music etc. Millions of activities to enjoy such as: Swiming with the dolphins, Zoo, snorkeling, jet skiing.

Ive been to punta cana and it was nice. I always prefer to stay on the caribean side, as the water is bluer, and less choppy. and the south side of the island you can see the sunsets bettter than the northeast side.

Re: HM Question: Dominican Republic

FH and I went to the DR Punta Cana 3 years ago. We stayed at a Dreams resort that had an amazing pool, almost like a lazy river, stretching around the resort. We spent 90% of our time at the pool, the beaches were kinda rocky so we stayed away from them. The DR is definitely more of an 'adventure' as compared to the American-ized Mayan Riviera in Mexico. FM me if you have any questions about either, because the resorts we've stayed in in both paces have been similarly priced!

HTH!

I am Dominican, and hands down for a Honeymoon- PUNTA CANA

there is no comparison...

the hotels in puerto plata, are much older, smaller, and the beach looks nothing like punta cana...

Puerto Plata is good for a quick inexpensive getaway for 4-5 days.. but not for luxury or something like a honeymoon.

Awesome! Thank you for this! That's the impression I got when looking between the two of them.

And thanks everyone else! Now time to do some serious research hah

Hi Dominican buddy. I'm also Dominican.
I totally agree..Punta Cana is more for Honeymoon. Punta Cana is more elegant, peaceful and the beach water is so much better. I also like Puerto Plata but more for a hang out scene. More young people and lots of parties.

Re: HM Question: Dominican Republic

I don't know if Punta Cana will work :( Just read about the weather:

The temperatures in this month combined with the excessive humidity make May one of the hottest months all around. The temperatures go from 31ºC (87ºF) in the peak time of the day to the lowest late in the night 23ºC (73ºF). This is the month with the greatest rainfall in this area with an average of 7 inches of rain. If you plan to travel to Punta Cana during May better bring an umbrella because you will probably need it.

Definately don't want rainfall during honeymoon!

are you willing to wait a little bit for your honeymoon? my friends went at the end of may about 2 yrs ago and it was perfect...

Def punta cana. Puerta plata has a lot of seaweed in the beaches (at least where we stayed-iberostar playa dorado). I would stick to the punta cana side for the HM. Much nicer.

That's werid because it said that by June /end of may the weather gets more rainy. Hmmm, I'll just research it more. Was hoping to go right after so I don't have to come back to work after getting married lol

Re: HM Question: Dominican Republic

Hi I have been to both Punta Cana and Puerto Plata ...personally it all depends what scene you want. Punta Cana definitely has a younger/spring break feel no matter what time of year./ Personally I like Puerto Plata ALOT more...def still upbeat both places has tons of activities. BUt we went more into the city by ourselves in Puerto Plata as do all the tourists...

Again, this is just my opinion.

I wouldn't follow what the forecast says. It usually rains in the morning and by the afternoon its all clear. I've been there through out the whole year and never had a problem.
