hmm does anyone know...

hmm does anyone know...

a good place where I can advertise myself as a tutor?

Some websites just sketch me out a little bit... I've had good experiences with Craig's List before, but now I just feel like it's a little creepy over there.

I'm overly cautious after that last family that I babysat for where the dad waved a knife at me.

BTW: the day after that, I walked in and he told me that I 'looked very pretty today'

I quit over the phone the next day.

i'm glad you quit because that guy seriously sounded like a wacko and I wouldn't know where else but craig's list you can advertise yourself as a tutor have you try googling websites??

sorry for crashing. I'm a tutor and I use wyzant.com. They do take a percentage of your fee, but they find you students and manage everything for you. I really like it. You can set your fee higher to compensate for them taking some out

Plus most local gyms have a bulletin board in the locker room or by the door or something, I would post a little note there with the tabs on the bottom with your number.

A bulletin board at the library?

I go through word of mouth. But you could also send a letter with your information to schools. My department get things all the time. Also try pennysaver.

Re: hmm does anyone know...

My undergraduate college had something called the Academic Resource Center where local parents could call to find inexpensive college students who work as tutors part time. Perhaps a local school here has the same sort of service?

My mom works at the Huntington Learning Center but makes less per hour than I used to 10 years ago when I tutored freelance in college. And she's been working there 8 years now!

Otherwise, you could maybe post something on a library message board.

thank goodness you left..

my sister is a teacher and does it all word of mouth.. but maybe you have a teacher you can talk to that can recommend some students to you..

long shot, but can start a word of mouth business for you..

So glad you quit! That was a crazy situation!

I only know of craigslist.com but you have to be careful about meeting with the families.. I think maybe a bulletin board at family friendly places liek supermarkets, libraries, parks, etc.

dance studios... my MOH is a teacher and tutors and she was going to post at my dance studio but ended up being booked with other work.
but most dancers have to maintain a high grade in school to compete or be in company and many of them need extra help.
