I'm a little confused. If you use a TA as opposed to booking directly, do you usually end up paying more to cover commission? Or would it be the same price, or, gasp, less?
I'm still trying to wheedle FH into a HM. I swear he's not normal that he doesn't want to go on one.

Re: HM/TA Question
A travel agent makes their commission from the resorts/cruises/hotels, etc.
You do not have to pay anything extra for using a travel agent. BUT today, airlines have cut back their commission to TA due to the use of the Internet so sometimes TA's might charge a slight fee for booking your airfare ($25-50 pp).
A benefit to working with a TA that you trust and know is that they may recommend places you never heard of or they might be able to upgrade you, they can also help if there are any problems with your trip.
I usually decide where I want to go and price it out on Expedia or Orbitz and then see if my TA can match the price.

Re: HM/TA Question
I found some deals online, and after I roofie FH tonight and get him to consent in his stupor, I think I'm going to go to another TA tomorrow and see what I can do. The last one I went to definitely tried to screw me, and I knew more about the promotions than she did. I like the idea of being able to upgrade, so I'd rather have someone fighting on our behalf.

Re: HM/TA Question
Some charge a fee for booking flights, other dont, mine didnt.. but the reason we did it thru a TA is because I work at a place where I book travel for my poeple all the time, and sh!t always goes wrong.. im so not dealing with this on my HM.. if something happens I will just call my TA up and be like fix this lol

I could not have said it better. We also price everything out first, and sometimes we are able to get cheaper airfare, but I just feel better using at TA because they can help if something goes wrong! HTH!

Re: HM/TA Question
We went through Liberty, and there were no fees or anything. I found the best price on honeymoonsinc.com and they price matched it.

You don't even know how long it took me to search the posts from a few weeks ago, I remember you saying this to me, and it wouldn't let me find the post! I think I'll end up doing the exact same thing myself, although their price was exactly the same as booking direct.

I would- we did because if something were to happen, hurricane or whatever, they can fix it for us instead of us having to scramble. I just liked having someone working with travel all the time to be able to take care of anything god forbid something should happen. You have nothing to lose!
FYI Liberty will price match most sites, just not things like HotWire.com because they arn't 'true' prices but they take their prices off of cancellations and things like that.

Re: HM/TA Question
I have no idea if they work on commission or not but I priced the HM myself and then went to a TA and it came out to slightly a little less with the TA... plus an added bonus, she is a friends of the family so she is going to try and upgrade us and hook us up.
TA are also good incase there is an issue of some sort you can have them handle it instead of you trying to do it either a few days before your wedding or while your actually on your HM
