Hollow to Hem?

Hollow to Hem?

My problem is I am unsure if the dress I want to order should be ordered 'Hollow to Hem' (length measured to order). I originally found the dress at Commack Wedding Center, and they said it should be ordered 'Hollow to Hem'.
Then I asked another bridal salon (who doesn't have that particular dress but they sell Mon Cheri) and they said Mon Cheri does not take 'Hollow to Hem' orders. They would have to order the dress as is and alter it at the salon. Both salons are similar in price and alteration cap, so it is not about making $$.

Anyone know anything about this? Anyone had experience with Mon Cheri & ordering Hollow to Hem? Do you think this dress can be altered by a seamstress? I want to order this dress soon & I would appreciate any help...

Thanks!

I don't know for sure if Mon Cheri does 'Hollow to Hem' orders. However after looking at your dress (which is beautiful by the way) I would think you have to do 'hollow to hem'. It is so intricate on both the top and bottom. Try finding another store online (even out of state) to call to inquire about the dress and veryify the 'hollow to hem'.

Good luck.

My dress was ordered Hollow to Hem because the length can't be altered after she measured me. I'm worried it's going to be long. I would trust TWC only because I got dresses there (BM, MOH and MOB) and they were very knowledgeable. Check it out. I'll show you my dress so you'll see how it needs to be hollow to hem because they're is no way to lift it.

Mine was ordered Hollow to Hem but it wasn't mon cheri.
Is there a way of contacting the manufacturer directly?

Or ask the store how they should alter it, if its not hollow to hem.

ever since mine was ordered I look at everything & thin it shoud be ordered that way, but my moms dress has embroidery & beading & she is having it hemmed. Its hard to say since we are not seamstresses. The lace edge on yours does look tricky though.

My dress was hollow-to-hem and it is a Mon Cheri. I ordered it from the Commack Wedding Center. I am sure it is a hollow-to-hem dress because the length cannot be altered. It looks to me like your dress is like mine...cannot be taken up from the bottom because of the lace, and cannot be taken up from the waist because there is no seam there. I think it is a hollow-to-hem.

I also have a Mon Cherie dress. At RK at first they said it would be ordered hollow to hem, but when they mesured me ended up ordering I guess the standard lenght. They were also willing to hem up to an inch if I needed it, but I didn't. My dress worked out well.

Looking at your dress, I would think it definitely needs to be ordered hollow to hem. The lace work looks intricate...I wouldn't want to mess with hemming that.

My dress isn't a Mon Cheri but it was ordered hollow to hem. My one bit of advice - aside from having the shoes you plan on wearing on your wedding day when you get measured - is to make sure the seamstress knows how you want the dress.

I insisted I wanted my dress to skim the floor - not drape and not show my feet - the seamstress insisted I would trip if it was ordered that way.

Needless to say, the dress came in about an inch and a half TOO SHORT. So I'm on my THIRD pair of shoes...but the dress is finally the right length.

My dress is all lace and I thought it would be ordered hollow to hem, but it wasn't because the edge lace detail is removable. It looks like yours is different though. I think it is better to have the option to alter your gown after it comes in instead of doing the hollow to hem thing.

Thank you for all of your advice...

Julz33 - Did you get your Mon Cheri in from the Commack Wedding Center yet?
How was your experience with them?

Thanks!
