Hollow to hem measurement

Hollow to hem measurement

Sorry to intrude on the '06 board, but I was wondering if anyone had a fitting or wore a dress that had a hollow to hem measurement. I just ordered a Maggie dress and had to get my shoes and slip for a hollow to hem measurement last week. I just did a search and read a lot of negative things about dresses coming in too long or too short and I am really worried. The bridal place told me not to worry and it is only a dress...needless to say I wasn't very happy. Any feedback?
TIA!!

Mine came in PERFECT!!!!!!! I really do believe that it all depends on the place that you order it from and that the manufacturer is a reliable one (which Maggie is!) so you shouldn't have any problems.

Mine came in perfect as well. I guess it depends on how they measure you. The manager of the salon had to verify the measurements for me before the order went through.

Good Luck!

I had a hollow to hem for my maggie dress and my dress came out perfect! My dress had to be ordered custom made b/c i'm only 5 foot and my dress has a lot of bead work all along the bottom.
Couldn't be happier with the way is came out!!! Can't wait to wear it in 5 days

from my knowledge of working in a bridal store, if the dress is too short, then it is the sales person's fault of measuring incorrectly. as long as your salesperson was knowledgeable and you had everything on the way you wanted it to look the day of your wedding. you should definitely not have a problem. and maggie couture is definitely a reputable designer to never have problems like that. . take a deep breath and dont worry it will come out perfect!

Mine had no problem at all. Just make sure when they do it that the tape measure is straight.

my dress had to be measured like that also, it is a private label by g dress, they made me find shoes that were the height i would wear, and measured me, i hope it comes in correctly, i was also told if i get different height shoes, i could just get a different tiered crinoline and it would make up the difference.

Re: Hollow to hem measurement

I had to be measured hollow to hem for my dress, and so did my sister last year. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my sister's dress came in too long and mine came in too short!!!

My sister's ws a Maggie...it wasn't too too long. She ended up wearing a fuller slip and it ws fine.

My dress is a PC Mary's. The seamstress measured me one inch too short adn the dress was made one inch too short.....making the dress TWO INCHES too short. I was SO upset. The dress coudl not be reordered becasue it was discontinued and too close to the wedding date anyway. The seamstress ended up adding fabric to the bottom. It looks great now, but how nerveracking and unneccessary.

SO, i recommend going to see your dress as soon as it comes in with your shoes to make sure it's right! I had gone in to try mine on and check it for stains, etc....but didn't bring my shoes and tried it on with flip flops, so i didn't notice that the length was so short until much later.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!! Like everyone else has been saying, this is USUALLY not a problem, so I wouldn't worry!

Yep mine was perfect too! I actually did not buy my wedding shoes until my dress came in just in case it was too long or to short (I used shoes with the heel height that I wanted for the measurement and then took those shoes with me to buy my wedding shoes after i saw that the dress was fine). Try not to worry about it!

Mine came in perfect and I didn't even have my shoes when we ordered it. I said the size heel I expected to get and that was it. I am very tall so I knew it wouldn't be more than 2 inches.

My hollow to hem measure was def the stressing point of my planning process. The bad news is that it actually came in too long, and then was altered to be too short. About one week before the wedding, the hem was above my ankles! The GOOD NEWS? Everything can be fixed, and I thought it was a perfect fit for the day of:

My advice? Trust the salon, but when the dress comes in - insist you try it on immediately since it is a pre-measured length. Most salons discourage trying on the dress due to wear and tear, but INSIST on it so corrections (if need) can be made right away. Your day, your way - don't be afraid to insist on things if it makes you feel better.

i had a maggie dress and ordered a hollow to hem measurement, and it came in too long. they fixed it and did the hem free of charge and the salon didnt charge me for the bustle. that was the good thing. the bad thing is if it is too long, and if the dress is hemmed at the waist (b/c of embrodiery at the bottom) then it can look funny when hemmed. but only if it is a lot to hem.

With all the detail on the bottom of my dress, it was a must to do the hollow to hem! My dress came in PERFECT. It was not to long nor too short!!!! Don't sweat it!!!

The hollow to hem is probably the best way to go. The dress is 'built' for your height. If you have detail on the bottom the dress it is especially the best way to go. Don't worry!
