Holy crap custom framing is expensive

Yesterday I went to get an 8x8' picture framed for DH's grandma - it's a picture of him dancing with her at our wedding and is going to be a Christmas gift for her.
So I've never gotten anything professionally framed and knew it would be expensive but $350?!?!?!?!!
The girl said that the frame she picked was from one of their more expensive lines but she could get the price down to like $175 with a less-expensive line of frames.

Can I buy frame pieces somewhere and do this myself? I have a butt-load of pictures to frame.....

omg, I know, we bought a painting while vacationing in Jamaica and it cost us almost $200 to get it framed

She must've taken one look at me and thought I have bucks or something
I haven't tried Michael's but my best friend says they're not cheap either.

Custom framing is pricey - esp if you use preservation glass - I have had several things framed - ranging from 150-300 so you probably werent ripped off just chose expensive frames.

I've heard that michaels often has coupons and other discounts when it comes to framing. Maybe you could check out the website to find out more?

I had a picture framed for my mom...it was rather large--maybe um...16 x 16?? it was square...i had it done at 'creativity' (i think they all closed down) i picked one from their 'cheapest' line and it was about $40 bucks, but that was several years ago...

shop around...or do it yourself! personal touches always make it that much more special.

We had framing done at Michaels and it came out nice it is pricey though. Be careful with the sales/coupons...make sure it's 50% off the whole framing order, not just the frame.

eta...we had our wedding portrait framed there.. it was $140 for 16x20 photo with a double mat, non glare glass and frame. It took them two weeks.

We had our 20x20 custom framed at Michaels for $360. That was using the 50%. Definitely check out Michaels when they have the 50% off the entire framing order.

i used to work in a framing/art gallery and yes!!! framing can be mucho pricey!

my mother framed some old photographs for DH, and i think she got her supplies at Michael's...i would definitely try to do it myself and not spend that kind of $$$...
