Home Depot Cabinets

Has anyone purchased their kitchen cabinets from Home Depot? If so, any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm not sure which H/D line you're looking into but we used the low end (Mill's Pride) assemble yourself cabinets and they've held up wonderfully for the last three years. They were MUCH, MUCH cheaper than American Pride, etc. and they clean up so nicely. Easy finish. I got the NOVA cabinets.

I'm looking at the Premiere Line -
Does anyone know anything about them?

Are you installing them yourself?

We got a quote for their Thomasville cabinets (which I liked a lot and had most of the feature of more expensive brand cabinets) which was good.

But every contractor I spoke to pretty much told me that they will not deal with Home Depot unless its a last resort b/c if there is a problem its a complete nightmare to deal with.

Also - they came to measure my kitchen and gave me a design based on that. But we haev since remeasured and realized they were way wrong in some areas so doublecheck their measurements.

I guess every HD store is run differently, b/c we ordered our kitchen cabinets from them, and we had a fantastic experience. We chose KraftMaid, which is a high end product, but I'm not *certain* if it's the highest end HD sells.

And, we were told that if there was a problem with our order, the manufacturer would deal DIRECTLY with US...so, that presented no problem at ALL for me! Any manufacturer who is willing to deal directly with their customers to make them happy (and cut out the middle man) is worth it, IMO.

ETA: If by chance they measure incorrectly, HD will pay for your order and rush a re-order of the appropriate size to complete the job. So again, you've got nothing to lose by having them do the measurements. Also keep in mind - no one's walls are square, so unless you know how the professionals measure, it's best left up to them. My cousin just purchased her entire Thomasville kitchen from HD and had a few problems that were taken care of. (I cant remember exactly if it was the wrong cabinet .. and they left the wrong one PLUS brought the correct one)

FYI - Contractors like saying they wont deal with Home Depot because going through another cabinet maker will usually give them a kickback - every contractor *knows* a cabinet maker who's 'the best in the business' and its all about the bottom line.

My mom and I redid her kitchen and we ended getting Kraftmaid Cabinets from Home Depot much to our contractors dismay. A couple of pieces needed to be replaced due to weird staining but immediate return was made direct to mfr and we enjoy our product.

If you are getting cabinetry, especially with stuff sticking to the walls, better to go with 1.5' plywood and not pressboard or particle board - that stuff will tend to break quicker.

Papa: While I can appreciate that may be true in other cases, my contractor is not getting a kickback. He is fine with me going to anyone else. As many of the other contractors I spoke with, they will not deal with Home Depot b/c their customer service is aweful. I cant disagree with that since our own dealings with them are also really disappointing.

I am not suggesting HD cabinets are not quality..im sure they are. I just think the people who work there are brain dead in many of the cases - and the ones that are helpful and knowledge are too far in between to make a discernable difference.

My good friend manages a HD store and she got her cabinets through HD of course. She ordered them way before everything else because she even knows when you get them they have a knack of forgetting pieces and/or being damaged!!

That is actually not the store's fault...forgetting pieces could be the manufacturer's fault...remember, HD is a distributor, not a manufacturer.

Re: Home Depot Cabinets

That may be true but they should make it their problem. I dont like places that just sell me something and then shriek all responsiblity after the fact for handling problems. If they can take the cash, they should be able to fix any problems you have.
