Home from the Bermuda HM....
Had a FABULOUS time in Bermuda!
We left Monday evening (5:55pm) and arrived late in Bermuda due to delays in the US due to weather. It is 1 hour later there, so it was around 10pm when we arrived. We met the bus to take us to our hotel, and I was pleased to find there were other people also staying at our resort.
We had arrangements to stay at the 9 Beaches Resort, which I had done a bit of research on through Trip Advisor as well as other travel sites. There were mixed reviews, as are to be expected, but most seemed positive. The resort (which I had posted pics of) has over water cabanas, which intrigued us as we had been planning a trip to Tahiti, but it was too $$ as we had paid for the whole wedding ourselves. We had the romance package for 6 days/5 nights, including daily breakfast, a picnic, a 30 minute in-room massage per guest and a dinner in their 'fancier' restaurant. (this package was $2525), plus I added 1 night at their regular rate.
So, after the 1 hour bus ride to the hotel (ferry is an option, but the ferry didn't run that late at night, plus we had 3 other hotels to stop and drop of people at), we arrive to our resort. Fine. We are taken to our room, via an electric golf cart, to find the door is unlocked, but the key doesn't work. Back onto to the golf cart to the lobby. Get a working key, back to the room. The girl at the front desk was kind enough to offer to make DH and I sandwiches as it was nearing midnight and NOTHING was open that late. So DH went back to the front desk to see if she had the sandwiches. I waited in the room, closing all the windows and turning on the portable A/C. P.S. 2 of the windows had no screens, so there were some bugs in the room. The walls were actually canvas, and there was what resembled a mosquitoe nest for a ceiling. There was (I felt) an unhealthy amount of mold on the 'walls', and the walls in the bathroom looked like white pool liner. There was no tv, no phone, no clock/radio, oh but they do give you a cell phone to use during your stay. The bed was a double size (DH and I are not big people, but come on!) and a futon.
DH comes back to the room, with 2 freshly made ham sandwiches, which we inhaled. I then decided it was time to turn in for the night, as now it's almost 1am. I head to the suitcase across the room, and on my way back what do I see... a cockaroach. Now, being from Queens, Ihave seen my fair share of them, and DO NOT like them....but this one was HUGE! No joke, it was at least 3' long and 1 1/2' wide! I jumped on the bed, began hyperventilating (I do this when I get scared) and hysterically crying! DH got on the phone and got us the 'F' out of there. It took about 1/2 hr to get someone to pick us up from our room, then while back at the lobby I told DH I was not saying a word, he did all the talking and got us a room at the Fairmont Southampton Princess, about 20 min away (our bus had dropped a couple off there on our way to this dump). We tooka cab and finally at 3am, we settled in for the night.
The remainder of our stay was FABULOUS!!! I can't wait to go back!! I will post more about it, and pics soon....we just arrived home today so I am still unpacking and such!!
Glad to be home!! And be a MRS.!!!!
