I was going to do the votives but now I can't since I talked to my hall and everyone picks up the place cards before the cocktail hour. I dont' want people having to carry the votives around. Does anyone have any other ideas for something I can put together as a place card?
Thanks.

Re: HOME-MADE PLACE CARD IDEAS????
Do you have a theme? I see your wedding is spring, maybe make the place card's different flower cutouts or something?
I am not sure, but I know a lot of autumn themed brides used leaves, or attached small leaves to their place cards.

You could attach your place cards to a champaigne glass. Then see if your hall will have someone stand nearby to fill up the glasses as they guests get them.

Re: HOME-MADE PLACE CARD IDEAS????
I used mini-pumpkins and made a wire loop stuck that into the pumkin in which I inserted the place card. I tied each stem with a pretty ribbon. It went with my theme of autumn. It was a big hit. Martha Stewart had the idea using pears and pinecones and mini-umbrella's. If you have a theme maybe you can do something similar.
It is a little more pricey and more work. I had to buy about 100 pumpkins (about $50 from a pumpkin patch), place card paper ($20), ribbon and wire ($10) but to me it was worth it.
Just be careful when you buy and stick the produce! I bought the mini pumpkins about 2 weeks before and about 10 or so rotten before I brought it to the hall. I had to buy them from a local veggie market which cost about $15 for 15!

I don't really have a theme. I just wanted to do something different. I should definitely check out Martha Stewart. She always has good ideas.

Re: HOME-MADE PLACE CARD IDEAS????
NYBRide: FYI, my reception site usually does the same thing (give the cards at the cocktail hour) but I told them that I wanted to give my candles out at right before entering the dinner room and they set it up for me. Same situation with Michele31 - so it can be done.

I agree with Sonicstef --- we are not doing candles, but I want the placecard table to be in the reception hall--- they usually so it in the cocktail hour, but they are accomodating (sp) us for what we want. It never hurts to ask.. and maybe insist a little-- after all you are the client who is paying for this and it is your wedding!!

I talked to the hall and they said they would do what I want. But they recommend not putting the table outside the ballroom because they say it causes a big line to get the place cards. What were your experiences?
