So it looks like FH and I will be buying a house with mostly wood floors. I have lived at home my whole life. What is the best way to clean them? TIA!!

Re: HOME OWNERS I NEED HELP
We have a vacuum that has a hardwood setting, so we use that to vacuum the floors. We also use a Swiffer, without any chemicals or cleaners added to the cloth. Then we use Fabuloso to mop the floors....we dilute it slightly so that it isn't too powerful. That is the BEST smelling floor cleaner you'll ever smell!!!!
We follow his parent's procedure because they've been doing this for over 20 years and their floors still look brand-new!

Re: HOME OWNERS I NEED HELP
Congrats on buying a home!
well I can tell you what NOT to use- we registered for the shark steam mop and it didnt clean up well at all.
our vacuum has a floor setting- so we run that over to pick up crumbs and dust and what not and then I usually polish them with orange glow and a mop every other week

Be careful to those of you with pets.....I saw an article and a newscast about a Swiffer product (can't remember which one, but I know it was one that has some kind of liquid in it) that is poisonous to animals.

Just the mini vac then swiffer. The wet one - not the spray one - it never affected the cat.

We love the steam shark....although we do vacuum first & then use that.......I think it works great.
Good Luck to you.

Re: HOME OWNERS I NEED HELP
We just got bamboo wood floors installed in our home as well. The first thing we did was make sure it was covered with a coat of wax. This will help alot in stratches and stains, etxc. DH got all the stuff from Home Depot and we did it ourself.
We mostly use Pinesol to mop it, jsut to give it a nice glow.

Re: HOME OWNERS I NEED HELP
get them done once. We paid someone to come in and it made a huge difference. Then some soap and water from there.

Re: HOME OWNERS I NEED HELP
We actually use a few things. We have a Hoover floormate that is for hardwood floors and we have a terry cloth mop with Bona floor cleaner. You can get it at BBB and we use a swiffer.

Re: HOME OWNERS I NEED HELP
Get them redone and clean them with a swiffer both dry and wet. Our upstairs bedrooms are all oak wood floors and our dining room is oak wood floor and that's what I use. The floors are gorgeous!

Re: HOME OWNERS I NEED HELP
well depends on the condition of them when you move in. Sometimes before you move into a new place they might need to be buffed. But if its just maintaining then I use a vacuum for the dirt. But find out the condition of the wood floors first, if you use water on an area that is worn you can warp the floors. SO if they are old wood floors be careful with the water, if its not sealed can cause problems.
Ive used a bunch of the different ones, have used murphys oil too. I like the vinegar and water method

Re: HOME OWNERS I NEED HELP
Is best to not use any chemicals to keep the floor natural look.
- Use water with mistolin or fabuloso...
This cleaning detergent are so soft it won't damage the floor. I have hardwood in parts of my house and I find it to be really good.
good luck.. FM if you have any quesions about being a home owner..
