I've been in contract for about a couple of weeks now and just received a call from my mortgage broker that we have been approved. But have 1-2 conditions to get the committment letter. One of the conditions is to get homeowner's insurance. This is our first house, so not quite sure of the process, but do I just call up companies and ask for quotes? Who do you recommend and what info do they need to gives us a quote?
TIA.

I just called a ton of companies. I got the best rates from Liberty Mutual, AllState, MetLife, and State Farm.

do you tell them everything gor just a quote? they asked dob, ss# and if i had a dog.
then when I told them what kind of dog i had liberty mutual said they wouldn't go any further to get insurance. its on the vicious dog list. imo if they knew my dog she would certainly not be on the list.

I'm surprised they wouldn't give you the insurance. I have a french mastiff, and the insurance company just told me if something happened involving the dog, it wouldn't be covered. No worries because she's a gentle giant.
I hate when people assume a dog of a specific breed is vicious.
