Re: Homeowners: How did you find your home?
Realtor! We had decided on the complex in which we wanted to buy a condo. We contacted several realtors, who then called us before ones were officially on the market and being shown. We were able to get one before it was shown to everyone!

Re: Homeowners: How did you find your home?
Open house. DH and I use to drive around neighborhoods on Saturdays and Sundays. We went to many many open houses because we were unsure what neighborhood we wanted. We never worked with realtors because we weren't in a rush and wanted to see what was out there on our own. After a couple months of open houses - we found the one for us.

Re: Homeowners: How did you find your home?
Realtor
We had gone to view a home in Northport. After viewing the home, our realtor suggested that we check out a ranch in the Huntington area even though it wasn't what we were looking for (we were looking at Colonials and Victorians.) We were a bit hesitant b/c DH had a haircut appointment. Our realtor urged us to see it b/c it had just gone on the market that day and he knew it was going to sell that day. DH canceled his haircut and we decided to check it out. We ended up making an offer in the driveway. (We were also the 2nd offer! We just happened to offer them their asking price. )

Realtor - Remax.
DH and I were obsessive MLSLI people - like, all day, every day. We also went to a billion open houses. At one open house that was over our price range, the realtor said she had something less expensive we may like, so we started working with her. After a couple of months, she called us about an exclusive they had that went on the market that day. We made an offer on it before it went on MLSLI.
I am a strong believer that the way to get a deal is to find out about an exclusive and see it within the first few days on the market.

Re: Homeowners: How did you find your home?
We started off going to open houses to get an idea of what we wanted and where. At one of the open houses I saw my fed-ex guy from work! I found out he was a RE Agent on the side and that his wife did it f/t. he asked if they could send me some listings. Michelle (his wife) was GREAT to work with. She really knew this area well and I got to see many houses the day they went on the market. The house we actually bought was on the market for 3 days and there were already offers on it! But Michelle convince me to see it anyway because she thought it was exactly what we were looking for, and it was!!

Re: Homeowners: How did you find your home?
my mom- she just saw the add in newsday and we begged the RE to see it right away. Bought it the next. The price and condition was too good to pass up.
needed to add- funny story was that we bumped a couple that was looking at the house too since we insisited on being the first appt. the following day after we first saw it, they found out that we made an offer and that there were 5 others and they backed out. They are now our best friends and across the street (directly) neighbors.
life is funny!

Re: Homeowners: How did you find your home?
By Accident!
I was bored at work and went on www.MLSLI.com and found it, we did a drive by, called the realtor, took a tour, had to have it! Turned out it was my Maid of Honor's -Aunt's summer house, (we didn't know that), and I know the Aunt, and she took our offer!

Re: Homeowners: How did you find your home?
MLS is great but alot of time homes are exclusive for a week or so before they go to MLS. I definately recommend working with agents in the areas that you are looking that way you can get a heads up on the exclusives. This is how we found our home.
Good luck!

Re: Homeowners: How did you find your home?
We went to a lot of open houses in different areas. Once we decided on an area I looked daily at MLSLI and individual realtor websites. A lot of the homes in the town were exclusives so whenever I saw one I liked I would call the exclusive realtor. Eventually, we found one we liked although it was a bit more expensive. We put a bid on it the first day it was shown.

Re: Homeowners: How did you find your home?
My FH and I knew what area we liked so every weekend we went driving in that area to scope out open houses. We found our house on the first day they were showing it and put an offer in right away!!
