Homeowner's Insurance

Hey fellow homebuyers. We signed our contract and this weekend got a mortgage. We are looking to close the first week of March. Does anyone know how I go about shopping for Homeowners Insurance. I heard State Farm has great rates. I have Geico for my car insurance and love them, but I don't know how big they are with homeowners insurance, even though I found out they do offer it through Travelers Ins. Co. So what do you think? What should I do. My parents have State Farm and got a good rate, but they also have car insurance with them. They are too high for me re: car insurance. Also, Geico needs all this stupid information, like where the nearest fire hydrant is and the name of the fire dep't and really stupid, stupid stuff. Do they all ask these questions. Please help me, I am lost! Also, if recommended state farm can you recommend an office in the babylon area. Thanks!

I know how you feel, I just went through this stuff in September. I have Erie Insurance for my car and was able to get a good rate with them for homeowners as well. However, we did call State Farm and one other company as well to compare rates. Erie was the best for us. (If you have more than one policy with a company most of the times you can get a 'multi-policy' discount.)

Denise, I am going with Tri-State Ins Co, they are located in Jericho, Long Island, I've had them for years with my cars, the apartment and now the new house. Their rates are very competitive, I thought GEICO had a better deal but GEICO didn't want to insure the amount of jewerly I needed insured.

I shopped around trust me, GEICO is pretty good, however they are strict. Good luck!!
