I just got a new job in a new school district, i will be getting married the weenkend before thanksgiving originally we planned on taking the three days before thanksgiving off from work........but now with a new job I dont know if its a good idea. Anyone take there honeymoon a few weeks after the wedding. We are now thinking about a long weekend (take mon. only off) then go on a real honeymoon over christmas break......what do you all think???

Re: Honeymoon......
I would tell the principle and all that I already booked my honeymoon for those days and just take them. If you don't want to do that then taking a long weekend right after the weddings sounds great till you two can go on a longer honeymoon.
But if you really have your heart set on those days off that you two were planning just tell the new job that you already booked them. That is what I would do.

Re: Honeymoon......
In my district, you would get a REALLY hard time if you took off any time as a new hire. That could work against you for tenure. See if you can talk to someone who would give you an idea about how tough the administration is on new hires.

Re: Honeymoon......
I have heard that districts really look into attendance for tenure reasons. I know its stinks but I would hold off just in case you need to take off for medical reasons later in the year you don't want to worry.

Re: Honeymoon......
In my district, they would very likely give you a hard time and it would very possibly affect your tenure prospects. I would wait it out and enjoy a nice long vacation at Christmas time.

Re: Honeymoon......
I would take it at a later time, either over Christmas break or even summer. You can always go on your HM. I don't think I would risk my new job, especially as a teacher.

Re: Honeymoon......
I agree with all of you, I will be teaching there only a little over a year and dont wat to risk lossing the job. My FH isnt happy about it but he is a teacher too and he hass been at his school for 7 years and has tenure, so its not as big of a deal for him. Oh well Thanks all!!!

Re: Honeymoon......
I am a new teacher, too. Because of that, we decided to get married in the summer. Well, plus I really love the summertime anyway. We are actually going to wait till Christmas break though to go on our 'real' honeymoon. I think I will be more appreciative of a tropical vacation in the winter! We may go on a long weekend kind of trip right after the wedding just to wind down, though. I would be nervous to take off as a first year teacher. Waiting it out gives you something else to look forward to after the wedding is all over with too!

Re: Honeymoon......
I knoe this sounds funny, but what about waiting until Summer 05??? You are going to pay top dollar if you go at Christmas time. The only place that price would not be an issue would be sandals, but if you don;t have your air now, good luck. What you can do is plan a long honeymoon in the summer and take your time. That way you don;t have worry about using your days.
