Honeymoon

My FI & I are thinking Costa Rica for our honeymoon. Has anyone been there or going to take their honeymoon there. I havent started looking into it yet. Does anyone have suggestions on where to stay?

Re: Honeymoon

I went there in late November.

Weather was good, it was the end of their rainy season. The skies were not super sunny but they were not super cloudy either. Kind of in the middle.

There is an abundance of beaches there...I read thats why it was named Costa Rica or 'Rich Coast'

There is no army and the locals are very laid back and easy going. I have heard that San Juan is not safe however, I did not go there. We flew into Liberia. Occasionally, the people outside the airport will be annoying and try to help you with your bags for a tip. You just have to be strong and do what you want...without allowing anyone to take advantage. This goes for traveling to any country in central america.

We stayed on the west coast in the Guanacaste region. This area was very remote where we were, we actually were staying at a resort that did not have paved roads for a good 30 minutes before getting to it. We also got lost driving there because the signs were not very clear.

Enjoyed Tamarindo Beach...there was a lot of restaurants and shops. They say to park in front of a bank if you want to feel safe. However, we did not see or hear of any issues while we were there.

I think we drove as far south as Nosara. I remember that being nice with some restaurants and cafes. Several beaches do not have restrooms unless it's in a city area where you could shop and use it there.

Beautiful Sunsets, food was good, lots of animals like monkeys, horses and cattle. Several of them walking on the road (unpaved roads). At first, I didn't think I would want to go back again but I definitely want to re-visit. I'd like to explore some areas we did not see as well as return to some areas we did.

Jet Blue flies there now.

You might want to consider the new RIU in Guanacaste because otherwise, it won't be a relaxing trip to travel around for everything. It was an adventure!

It should be sunnier that time of year. We went the week of Thanksgiving.

Here is a pic of the sunset...
