Re: Honeymoon baby....
That's awesome Stacy...
Sorry, I don't know anything about the amnio...I prayed my whole pregnancy that there wouldn't be any reason to need one.
I'll look for some info and pass it along!

Re: Honeymoon baby....
Congrats. Are you over 35? That is normally when they want that test done. My stepmom had one (with my little brother) and said it doesn't hurt at all.

Re: Honeymoon baby....
I don't know a whole lot, but some women decide not to get the amnio b/c there is a small risk of miscarriage with it. Usually, they start out with the AFP triple screen test, which is just a screening to tell you your chances of having a baby with certain disorders. It doesn't diagnose you, and it's more like a probability. So if the chances are high, they would recommend a amnio.
Your decision all depends though, b/c women who might not want the amnio also decide that no matter what they would not terminate a pregnancy, so there's no point in getting the test. I was just reading an article in Redbook about more women who are declining these tests. But, I think the main benefit of knowing if a child has down's or something like it, is that it enables a couple to prepare for a special needs child.
In addition to speaking to your Dr. I would do lots of research before making your decision. Also ask your Dr. before tests what they are for, what are the risks and what are the benefits.

Re: Honeymoon baby....
first off, CONGRATS!!!!!!!! God bless you little baby hope you are feeling well.
i had an amnio and it was no big deal. the procedure IMO was not bad at all, the hype about the needle is scarier than the procedure.
amnio runs the risk of causing a miscarriage in appx 1/2 a percent so, again, IMO, the benefits outweigh the risks.
your OB should be giving you literature and of course you can reads about it on line but definitely discuss any fears/concerns with your ob
